Rockets have one issue and its at QB, hope whomever its is they can just manage the game. Logan cant throw but has some moxy and experience. The others Hell who knows....

Honestly, you'd probably prefer the game be kept low scoring, because the odds favor you winning a low scoring game in Jonesboro. We've allowed 30 points or more 6 times in the last 4 seasons at home, and won 5 of those 6 games. When the game is turned into a low scoring affair, we really struggle.

I agree with this to some extent, but it will be hard to guess where the breakdowns will occur on both sides of the ball in the first game. The only reason I picked us to win is because of our mature running game. I think we will be able to get it going since we have all the same pieces in place.

Like Woody Hayes used to say, "only three things can happen when you pass (a completion, an incompletion, and an interception) and two of them are bad."
[I know we have many in our fanbase that dispise OSU, but this quote is spot on when you have an epic running game.]

Good luck to both teams. The game is nearly upon us02-13-banana

I am a lot more concerned about the lack of experience and depth on the defense than I am about the offense. Woodside had a good year in 2014 and I would imagine that he further developed his game during last year's red shirt season. I think Julian bottomed out against NIU in 2014 but in limited action since then has performed satisfactorily ---more like the player he was touted to be coming out of high school.

PS----at this point there are some unknowns about both teams, so calling them evenly matched (with Arkansas State getting a 3 point home field advantage) seems like a safe, reasonable pick to me. We will obviously know a lot more about both teams after the game.

2014-15 was Logan's first year as a True Soph. Big learning curve there.
Logan's passing performance against EMU was #2 in the FBS that year(Btw, those top performances were against worse teams than EMU).

I thought Logan had some promising moments in the passing game that season. My concern at QB this season is whether we have a capable back-up. Julian hasn't played much and Guadagni not at all (though I think he could surprise if needed). Overall, the position(s) I'm most concerned about are in the deep secondary. My big fear is that we chew yardage and clock with an awesome ground game, score a TD, and then give the points right back in 4 or 5 pass plays. This may be a season where we need to establish a double-digit lead early in most games?

No matter who plays QB for AState, it'll be someone who has never taken a snap as a Red Wolf. With new starters at QB, RB, TE, two of three WRs, plus a new OC, OL coach, and RB coach, there are a lot of unknowns.

I think another argument is film and preparation. Even though we've played the last two years, there really isn't a ton of film you can use to help prepare for this year.

AState is running a new starter at QB, RB, every WR spot, and TE this year, plus we have a new offensive coordinator. I mean, you could look at Pitt film to plan for Voytick at QB, but that's knowing that Pitt's offense looks nothing like ours. You could look at Middle Tennessee Film because we took their OC, but that's not taking into account that both teams are build radically differently. You could look at our game against you guys last year, but we had so few players who played in that game last year starting this year that there is little to pick up.

Likewise, you guys have new coordinators on both sides of the ball, and while we're reasonably confident that your offense will remain similar under Candle, there will certainly be a lot of different things brought in both the offensive and defensive sides.

Much of game 1 is about who adjusts better to what the other is doing.

Can I ask if that was REALLY ever in doubt or just coachspeak?

I would say coach speak. I think he is a leader and a competitor, lets hope he can throw it down field to Thompson and Roberts.

Are there open container laws in the tailgate areas/what can we get away with? Cocktails will be flowing.

Yes, anything with alcohol must be in a cup.

Yes, but the bigger issue you'll run across is Jonesboro is in a dry county. That means places cannot sell alcohol unless they are a private club, so convenience stories and grocery stores etc can't sell alcohol, and liquor stores don't exist. You'll need to actually pick up your tailgate supplies before you get into Jonesboro. (Plenty of liquor stores right before the Craighead county line) It won't be an issue at meals as most restaurants in town have permits to serve alcohol. Tailgating wise, just keep it in a cup and no one will care. Campus and City police are not known for haunting tailgates looking for this stuff, so there should be no issues there.

Also, keep in mind smoking is prohibited in all indoor public establishments in Arkansas, on all college campuses, and at all stadiums. I think a lot of states have these laws now, but it's something to keep in mind just in case Ohio laws are different.

Meh, we're a College Campus with 14,000 students, we still have alcohol related issues. I do think that it cuts down on our DUI Charges though. If you have to drive 15 miles up the road to pick up your beer, you are less likely to be drunk making the trip.

Public Intoxication seems a lot more prevalent here, but I think that might be more of campus police watching frat parties very closely.

Just an FYI to those going Friday, Every major student organization including the greeks are requiring all members to attend the first home football game this year. They are also supposed to be there at least an hour before kickoff, so expect close to 5,000 students at this one. Hope is that doing it this way will replace the attendance we lose because of parents with kids involved in High School Football games Friday Night.

Actually studies of the issue show damp counties (which is really what Craighead county is) have higher DWI rates than wet counties and dry counties (no alcohol sales at all) have even higher DWI rates. But facts have never gotten in the way of a dandy wet/dry fight when the holy alliance of churches run campaigns to stay dry with the campaigns funded by liquor store owners.

Jonesboro has never really been dry. When I was in college, my fraternity had a Pepsi machine full of beer.
Access to alcohol has never been an issue.

LOL . . we were not that inventive. My Frat just had one member over 18 make a Friday afternoon run to Trumann, with a shopping list of liquor to be purchased for the various Members. Always plenty of Booze around the Frats. 03-lmfao
