UH to begin construction on IPF at the end of 2016 season
Quote:The timing of the approval also beat a deadline involving coach Tom Herman's contract. If the board of regents had not approved the project by Sept. 1, Herman's contract (buyout) could have been reduced 25 percent from $2.5 million to $1.875 million.

"We cleared that hurdle as well," Yurachek said. "This was a facility piece that was very important to him and very important to his program moving forward."

The Cougars are hard after that 14th spot.

Just kidding/just kidding/just kidding.....I saw a Cougar fan do that about Memphis and it looked just as wimpy for me to do it.

On a serious note, the Cougars are seriously spending a good bit of $ in improvements with this, the revamped arena; and other projects. Good news for Cougar fans.....and that's a serious comment!!

IPF seems to have become a factor to be considered a true football school of late. Congrats! WKU just announced ours last week, I know how it feels

The Hilltoppers are an unpolished gem waiting to be uncovered by a big conference.

I never heard much about one until Herman came here. He absolutely demanded it, and it got done quick. Perhaps they'll allow his input on the design, because he seems to have mastered from A to Z how to win.

Thanks, man. I've only been following UH since 2006 or so, and these upgrades were a long time coming for me, so I can only imagine how the older guys feel.

UAB is building one that sounds very interesting because it drops costs dramatically because it doesn't have walls so it's more like a practice pavilion.

By having a roof it allows practices outside of rain and lightning but allows air to flow thru and not have to pay for walls or AC.

If it works I expect many schools to follow that route

Looks like they got naming rights for it as well which is something else other schools will try to follow.

Looks like Traders Village. That should be their sponsor.

I'm sure most players wold prefer that to the cheap metal hangers many schools are going with that don't even have AC.

To me it's very simple if the object of an IPF is to allow the team to practice away from lightning and rain then the UAB example is good one to look at. If you are up north and snow and wind are an issue then obviously it won't work.

I'll be interested to see how it works out for them.

If your school is located in warm weather, why add walls? You can be protected by the rain and lighting, but still able to move to have a full scrimmage. Smart move by UAB.

You guys do know that lightening can go sideways. That's why you don't stand underneath a tree in a thunder storm. Same concept.

It's called being cheap and technically not an IPF. Like the other poster said...it doesn't protect from lightning...all it really does is provide shade and rain cover (assuming it's not windy and rain isn't being blown horizontally...).
