Remaining Undefeated Teams (Pre-Season)
This is the thread for people who love lists For anyone new, basically what I’ll do is each week post the teams with their 1st loss and the remaining undefeated teams. As the season progresses, I’ll add in 1 loss teams and winless teams and note the games between the teams or ones with more upset potential.
Conference changes this year: We have a few changes this year in conferences, but less than previous years. Charlotte has completed their transition to I-A (FBS) and will be able to complete in the Conference USA Championship Game and bowls this year. UMass meanwhile is left as an independent. They had been in the MAC for football, but with Temple gone, they were a long way from the next closest MAC team. The MAC gave them the option to join in all sports or said their football only contract wouldn’t be renewed and the Minuteman opted to remain in the Atlantic 10 for others sports.
Remaining Undefeated Teams: ACC: 14, American Athletic: 12, Big 12: 10, Big Ten: 14, Conference USA: 13, MAC: 12, Mountain West: 12, PAC-12: 12, SEC: 14, Sun Belt: 11, independents: 4, total: 128

I'm surprised the Big Ten has not awarded Illinois a preseason loss

RE: Remaining Undefeated Teams (Pre-Season)
Don't mean to derail, will be glad to take it to another thread ... but:
Was that move wise by UMass??
Granted, I know they greatly desire to be in the AAC, and ideally with UConn.
Obviously A10 is better bball conf. But on the flip-side, does UMass often survive the A10 enough to get an at-large bid?? They might find it easier to win or get an at-large from the MAC.
At the risk of becoming another Buffalo ...

Did UMass have a choice?

Yes, join MAC full member. Wasn't that obvious from my post and the OP?

If the B12 truly expands and the dominoes start falling, UMass will most likely get into the conference they desire, in which case, it would be considered a good move (no exit fees or other red tape to join beyond receiving an invite).
If no expansion/invites, then it's up for debate on how wise the move is.
