Memphis - SEMO Through History
Zach Curlin's West Tennessee State Teachers College (today's University of Memphis) went 8-0-2 in 1929, dominating Mississippi Valley Conference opponents that included Sunflower, Tennessee Junior College, Bethel, Delta State, Murray State, and Little Rock. Curlin's team outscored opponents 146-27 that season.

One of toughest games that season was the game hosting Southeast Missouri State, a much older university to the north that was established back in 1873. Curlin's squad fought the Indians to a 0-0 tie.

The following season, Curlin's squad traveled to Cape Girardeau after a whipsaw early start that included a 40-0 loss to Millsaps College and a 73-0 rebound against Jonesboro College.

The result? 0-0 tie.

The teams did not play in 1931, but met again in 1932. Now nicknamed the Tigers, Curlin's team won 7-0, breaking the stalemate in the series.

And the great 1933 team that went 7-1-1 opened the season with an 18-0 win against SEMO.

SEMO eventually broke the four game scoreless streak by beating the Tigers 6-0 in 1934.

Matt Dillon will give you that history and more pre-game.
