ESPN ranks every program on importance to college football
On a scale of 1-10.

Hahahaha. Scroll to the bottom and you will find CUSA, minus a few.

Marshall in at #67 with a 2.5 composite score.

Ha...Mussussippi State has no SEC football title since 1941....Has suckled off Alabama's, Auburn's and LSU's teat for decades...and is voted inside the Top 50. For what? Best suckle?

When I read your subject line, I felt my blood pressure go up. **** ESPN was my first thought. Actually, I still feel that way after looking at the list. Everyone is important for college sports because it should not be about money.

With that said - I felt a little better after looking at the list. It was nice seeing some of the AAC teams that have been slamming Southern Miss (especially some of the UCONN guys on the expansion board) ranked below us. 04-cheers Not that it will matter of course.

No one has any right to slight USM... Period, amen, and end of file! The first "anytime, anywhere" current G5 school deserves more respect. I think here are several G5 schools that deserve to be higher than some Pee 5 schools.

Tied for last, UConn. I don't know why their fans are so delusional in realignment talk.

Biggest Load of Bull#$%@ I have ever read. What a shock that Espin would load most of the Non-Cartel Teams together at the bottom.

Well, just to play devil's advocate, explain your reasons for Middle scoring higher. Championships, bowl wins, Heisman Trophy finalist, other winners of significant awards, national awareness of your brand or tradition, etc.

They're one of a few programs that have valuable programs that aren't football. I'm not saying they're going anywhere, but if they do it will be in spite of their football, not because of it.

Its based on the importance to COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

So your damn tennis, swimming and diving, and checkers championships do not count in this ranking of theirs.

Rice tied for 73rd with South Miss and a bunch of others. Last place is #101 with a bunch of schools at that spot at the bottom. So Rice is in the bottom quartile. Sigh.

It's a stupid ranking. It's always fun being ranked below teams you've beaten multiple times.

Maryland is ranked 61st and we beat them twice. (2008 & 2009)
Vandy is ranked 79th and we've beaten them 3 times since 2001. (01, 02 and 05)

We need to just win our games and handle our business. We'll see how it plays out this year.

Most G5 schools aren't that significant to the history of college football, so I'm not really sure what your beef is. Biased? Sure. "Biggest load of bull**** ever"...hardly.

That is a joke and pure ESPN bias....App St. and Georgia Southern cannot be ranked over WKU or upper echelon CUSA teams after 2 seasons in FBS....

While the intro does say that they ranked current FBS prograns, it didn't explicitly specify that they only based it on what they've done since becoming FBS. App State has to their name perhaps the most recognizable upset of the last twenty years, both teams have multiple national championships.

I think that they could have provided a little more transparency in their methodology, but I'm confused about this "pure ESPN bias" you speak of, I mean it certainly exists for the P5, are you suggesting they have a pro Sun Belt bias?
