The same relationship exists between, say college athletic departments or pro sports teams and the media. There is a long, long tradition of people transitioning between public relations and media/entertainment. For instance, George Stephanopolis (of the "it's the economy stupid!" fame from the Bill Clinton Whitehouse). The primary reason is basically that the skill set and experience are a valuable combination for both jobs.

Understand that many of those will be on one side of the podium at one time, and the opposite side at another time.

Ultimately, the trust you have comes from the credibility that they are able to earn in the public eye, and I think for one, George Stephanoplois earns respect from the job that he's done in both sectors.

I'll still vote as I see it as duty due to thousands that died to give me that right. This is the first year I've ever looked at 3rd party candidates. The only wasted vote is a vote for someone you don't believe in.

So in a nutshell, if you want a cush job in a D controlled white house, marry a senior level journalist or executive at a major network.
