The pharmaceutical company under fire for increasing the cost of its life-saving EpiPen has been criticized by Hillary Clinton — despite the fact that the manufacturer donated to the Clinton Foundation.

Records available on the website of the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation reveal Mylan, the company that manufactures the EpiPen, has donated up to $250,000.

On Wednesday, Clinton released a statement blasting her family foundation’s donor.

“Over the last several years, Mylan Pharmaceuticals has increased the price of EpiPens by more than 400%. They’re now charging up to $600 for a two-EpiPen set that must be replaced every 12-18 months. This both increases out-of-pocket costs for families and first responders, and contributes to higher premiums for all Americans and their employers,” Clinton said in a statement released to reporters by her campaign.

EpiPen maker has announced it will offer $300 coupons for the drug in response to the public outcry against the price increase.

The EpiPen maker can do this because it has no competitors, because FDA has eliminated them.

People that need this med should simply buy it in the vial form and learn to inject it the old fashioned way. It is not hard to do and 10 times cheaper. There is nothing particularly expensive about this drug...the auto injector aspect of the epi pen is costly part. If enough people reject this technology and return to the old way of injecting it? The price will drop like a rock.

The FDA has passed on approving two generics in the past year. And a third voluntarily withdrew the product.

No generics = monopoly.

It's about the "victory".

We used EpitPen for years but then switched to Auvi-Q. Luckily we don't need the drug anymore as our daughter outgrew her allergy. However, I read Auvi-Q was was pulled from the market due to reports of dispensing inaccurate doses. Hopefully Auvi-Q can get its act together and get back on the market.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist.. but someone pointed out today that one of the key senators in charge of FDA subcommittees and such.. their daughter is the CEO of Mylan Pharmaceuticals.

It's known that FDA killed a generic that wasn't showing any of the side-effects and incorrect dosages of Auvi-Q.

Are you referring to Adrenaclick? Apparently it's back on the market; however, most insurance plans don't cover it and the FDA has made it illegal for pharmacies to substitute Adrenaclick as a generic alternative to EpiPen.
