And the highest paid in the entire state! When they hired him he became the highest paid public employee in Illinois.

The highest paid public employees in most states are the football or basketball coaches.

Should we discuss the state pensions some of the former coaches are receiving? Lou Henson?

From 2007:

Five men receive the largest public pensions in Illinois, all from their careers with the University of
Illinois:
Dr. Jacob Wilensky, a glaucoma expert - almost $242,000 a year pension.
Six-Figure Public Servants
former Illinois basketball coach Lou Henson - $250,000 a year pension.
Dr. Mahmood Mafee, a nueroradiologist - $265,000 a year pension.
Dr. Riad Barmada, a retired orthopedic surgery professor - $333,000 a year pension.
UIC Dr. Tapas K. Das Gupta, top pensioner in Illinois - currently being paid $358,000 a year.

When you rake in big bucks while working, you're going to get a bigger pension. Stands to reason.

Unfortunately, my pension will be roughly $17.28 per month. 03-weeping I hope I can get a lot of jury duty to supplement my retirement.
