Monarch Media Interviews Are Lousy
The interviewer after practices on Monarch Media is lousy. He rarely asks Bobby Wilder any questions about how specific players are doing, depth charts, player roles, who is looking good in practice, etc. The stuff we are interested in. The one time he asked such as question about the WRs, Bobby gave him answers as to who was looking good, who was ready to play and the relative rankings. Then, he asks the same boring questions of the players over and over again like "how is camp going" "what did you learn last year," and "what do you teach younger players." Why doesn't he ask questions about their specific roles for this season, their playing goals, what they are improving at, upcoming opponents, etc. We need an interviewer who asks relevant and interesting questions like Harry does.

That's because he's an SID not a reporter. And if he sakes too many questions coaches don't want to answer he may need a new job. Basically you're getting the info the coaches/ program wants released.

Does anyone else have issues watching Monarch Media content on the iPhone? Some items play, but sometimes I receive the 'Playback of this media is not supported' error message. Using Safari on iPhone 6+. Most recent example was on the Wake Up with Wilder interview - couldn't watch it. But the new Football Intro video did play. Don't really get it.

Try using the chrome browser instead of safari.

Its not journalism, its PR. Thats why the press is so important. Also why its so important that they remain neutral, unbiased and report (not spin), but thats another issue. Tough questions will come from the media, not paid ODU employees.

RE: Monarch Media Interviews Are Lousy
I stopped listening to monarch media, coaches show and basically any media presentation produced by or paid for by ODU. Not ripping on them, they have the right and obligation to promote their product. I just feel like listening is a waste of time, similar to listening to an infomercial. HM is the only reliable source of real info and even he's walking a tight rope.

*Rant* Why the hell, in 2016, do we have to deal with a website using flash for video? This is just another one of those ridiculous things that is incredibly frustrating about ODU PR. You go to all the work and expense to create this content and then vastly limit the number of devices that can actually play it. Beyond frustrating!

As an IT professional I say it can't die fast enough.

RE: Monarch Media Interviews Are Lousy
Have you guys checked out my podcast yet? One of the reasons I started it is because I was not happy with the coverage of ODU in the area. The media department is very helpful in getting me players as guests. 90% of the time I get the guy I requested.
http://www.MonarchAsylum.com
The first episode has a couple good interviews with Rashaad Coward and Nick Clarke. Nicke clears up some questions I have about the offense.
Unfortunately what ODU is doing is a growing trend in college and professional athletics. I have been working up close in Miami for the last 13 years (Dolphins, Heat, Hurricanes, Marlins) and the access to the athletes has been diminishing ever since. If you control the media you control the message. Historically Bobby Wilder has run a pretty open program but there is no doubt that will change if ODU continues to move up conferences.
I plan on talking more about this on a future podcast... looks like it will have to be the next one.

Love love LOVE your efforts to expand ODU's coverage. It frustrates me living in Richmond, 84 miles away, and we're not even a blip on the media's radar in print or TV. At least one of the sports radio guys is including ODU football in his Saturday morning show this fall.
Keep up the good work on the podcast. Fun fact, I won your gift card contest last year for the App State game.

Enjoyed the interviews and love the fact that you are expanding the brand. Keep up the good work and look forward to your future podcast shows. Thanks
