The 3 missing are Texas, Texas Tech, and West Virginia. Texas and TT of course want Houston instead.

Swaim also believes that Cincinnati has enough votes and will be in.

RE: Greg Swaim says BYU has 7 votes
I can see why UT and TTU have to pretend to want UH right now (and all evidence points to them being the only two pro-UH votes) when they both want big expensive and controversial projects approved by politicians that Uncle Tillman bought and paid for....but not sure why WVU objects other than maybe sheer distance. I'm sure WVU would rather have a Florida school for recruiting.

Swaim does cite distance for non-revenue sports as the holdup on WV....and that negotiations are going on there to try and work it out. The 2 Texas schools politically are obligated to vote Houston and are unlikely to change.

How many does it take? 8 or all 10?

It takes 8. The most interesting part IF TRUE, which is a big if, is that we now see that Baylor/TCU are voting independently of Texas. So that would mean WV needs swayed for an agreement with or without Texas.

8 is enough

Big 12

North: OU, OSU, KU, KSU, ISU, BYU
South: Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, WVU, Cincy

realignment talk ends till the GOR come about in about 8 years.

Invite BYU and Cincinnati and get this over with! They've been the favorites for as long as WVU has been in the conference.

WVU
Cincinnati
Kansas
K State
Iowa St.
BYU

Oklahoma
Oklahoma St.
Texas
Texas Tech
TCU
Baylor

Sets up nice rivalry weeks without the need for yearly cross-division games. BYU won't mind because they wanted a national schedule anyway.

If 14 is the end goal then invite Houston and Colorado St. as well. Then put those two and BYU in the South and move the Oklahoma schools to the North keeping OU-Texas as the lone yearly cross-division game.

WV has to be voting no based on geography so who are they wanting? Houston isn't much closer is it? Hoping for Memphis?

I would assume WVU would like Memphis or ECU over the other choices for geographical reasons.

I don't think Swaim knows anything, but I could see this happening. And for a process with seemingly no great answer, this outcome actually seems like a natural one. You have nods to the Big 8 and SWC traditions in the divisions that are also geographically sensible that are fairly balanced competitively both historically and more recently. Adds some decent markets without a "bridge too far" situation.

Not really. Only desperate coog fans were pushing the narrative that somehow the state government of Texas is so invested in UH that they would find a way to blackmail two private schools they have no control or leverage over into voting for UH even though it's clearly against their interest to do so.

UT and TTU need state approval and funding for projects not everyone is on board with.

BU and TCU do not. At best they need good relationships with the cities of Fort Worth and Waco which are both run by their alums anyway.

10th,

Just wondering where the "UH ran over my dog" persona comes from??

Do you dislike them so much because you're afraid of the competition? Or is it because you dislike some UH posters?

And of course, to make a claim that Baylor and TCU can ignore desires of TX state gov, like it's not even there, is absurd.

I know "small govt" proponents live to pretend that being "private" is this mythical, ideological shield that magically cloaks the entity in an impenetrable barrier from government. If it's within the state lines, then it's firmly within the state govt's grasp. In multiple ways.
