ACC Network effect?
Check out Kirk Herbstreit's "Herbies" awards...

http://www.espn.com/college-football/sto...e-football

Six of seventeen are from the ACC, most of any conference.

ACC - 6
SEC - 5
PAC - 3
B1G - 3
B12 - 0

Just the type of high profile subjective BS that ESPN is so good at...and the ACC has never gotten much run in.

Granted, the ACC has had to get much better in football just for their inclusion in this kind of thing to be plausible, but it's tough to deny that this hasn't been the norm.

So are we seeing the ACC Network effect starting, or what?

Probably. Herbstreit has certainly shown himself to be a "company man" at ESPN.

This is a great question... It is hard to say whether some of this is due the investment of the ACC network, but there seems to be more positive buzz on the ACC Football on ESPN than I can remember

Finebaum called the ACC an emerging conference
Their preview shows have sometimes had 2 ACC teams in the playoffs.
Louisville and UNC were discussed as darkhorse candidates in depth
Deshaun Watson has been a fixture on ESPN
They said a 2 loss FSU team would be picked over a 1 loss Big 10 west team.

You have to give ESPN something to work with, but honestly I don't think it is a coincidence.

By they way it makes ESPN much more tolerable, and Ive watched more of their previews than I have in years.

It's not just a SEC commercial anymore.

I completely agree and thought the same thing!!! Seeing all this ESPN/ACC Love & Respect is throwing me off!!! They even said that Both FSU and Clemson could get in the tourney, which would have NEVER been Spoken aloud on ESPN a couple years ago.
I gotta say I have watched a tad of the $ec network these past few weeks and if ours is even CLOSE to that one we are ALL ACES!!04-cheers

So, to answer a past question, ESPN is a good partner for the ACC?

I think it's directly related to ESPN's increased investment in the ACC. At least we won't have to see the ACC wheel of destiny any more.

Yep. For much of the last 15 years, it's been ridiculous to fault ESPN for slighting the ACC...you have to give them something to work with.

For the last 3-4 years though, I think some of the criticism of ESPN has been fair. We'll never know if there was a corporate change of policy, or they just simply wanted the ACC to prove it out over a few seasons so they didn't end up with egg on their face.

In any event, it's a welcome change.

Regardless of the reason, it is great to see the effect. I like the fact that pundits are floating the possibility of 2 ACC teams getting into the playoff. With both FSU and Clemson being ranked in the top 5, why not? It will be up to U of L and UNC to put in work in order to be ranked as high as possible. Hopefully, UNC will take UGa to the woodshed.

So you're saying ESPN was chicken because they were afraid of getting egg on the face? Well, I guess it can be both!

Pittsburgh has a tremendous opportunity to become an ESPN darling. If they win against Penn St and Oklahoma St I really look forward to coverage on them.

You obviously don't follow Pitt much if you think they'll take advantage of a tremendous opportunity. More than likely, they'll figure out a way to lose to Villanova. I'm sort of joking but I know it's in the back of every Pitt fan's head.

What's 'been ridiculous' over much of that time has been the press narrative. The SEC enjoyed a run of football success that left every other conference feeling like an underachiever. Over that time the press got as much 'to work with' from the ACC as it got from the Big Ten, PAC, and B12.

While much of the SEC's success was of course earned, the press narrative grew bloated beyond all proportion and frequently came to the aid of the run itself whenever cracks appeared--as when a two-loss SEC team was declared national champion or a title game offered a rematch of two SEC teams.

Thankfully, our long national narrative nightmare is over. Here's something to work with:

LOL - that is AWESOME!

OTOH, it looks like Fox is sore about missing out on ACC football, so naturally they are taking out on everybody's favorite whipping boy...

CBS is having some issues, too. The Seminoles didn't make a statement win so much as they 'came back to take advantage of an Ole Miss meltdown.'

What does it look like when an SEC shill goes groping at the bottom of a losers' ice bucket for a new narrative? Like this:

Florida State has only played one game, but the Seminoles are showing shades of their 2014 selves. If that's any indication, their 45-34 come-from-behind win over Ole Miss to cap off Week 1 will be a theme throughout the year. Which means a few grey hairs among the FSU faithful along the way.

However, considering a couple of top-10 teams were upset in Week 1, here's betting the Seminoles will take the win. Florida State has a long ways to go if it's going to knock off Clemson and win the ACC Atlantic, ACC and/or get to the College Football Playoff. Still, it showed a lot of resiliency and an ability to improve as the game went on.

Actually, CBS, the Seminoles will take your grudging compliments and the win.

04-cheers

Pretty sure Aguayo had 21 points - 6 FG's, 3 Extra Points. Still, the point remains. The Aguayo family breeds some great kickers!
