The "lease," if approved at the next city council meeting in two weeks, allows them to have a 180 day due diligence period for them to get in there and see if placing the brewery in there is truly feasible. If they determine that it is, THEN their actual lease in the terms we all use would begin.

They already know that the dimensions, etc., meet their needs, but they still have to determine whether or not they can remove all the seats and stay within the requirements of a building on the national historic register, determine whether the seismic requirements can be met within their budget, etc., etc.

There's a plan, but it's a very loose one at this point. They don't know exactly what kind of retail or other things they want to bring in (a bowling alley and a museum section honoring the history of the building had been mentioned). They are also trying to figure out how they would work out loading and logistics for their vehicles getting in & out of the area they own 7 days a week, including game days.

Good info & typical due diligence it would seem. Related to ingress/egress, I'm guessing since the Coke bottling plant has been able to manage over the last 50 yrs, that can be worked out.

The only thing is that unless they build out a separate entrance, they would have to use Early Maxwell, while Coke has immediate access to both Hollywood & Southern. They've already said that they don't plan on making any changes to remove parking spots from the area they would have control over in the immediate future, but 10 years down the road they might have to look at it if they continued to grow.

I hope after the 180 days if it's feasible to continue, and they have some more concrete ideas for what else they want to include in the building. For it to succeed, they're going to have to come up with some things that will strike the right chord for both the surrounding community as well as those who want to honor its history (note that does not mean leaving it as a performance venue).

It's very tricky, but I think they're capable of doing it as long as they stay in communication with the community.

Mayor Strickland is actually an attorney, thus the reason I put quotes on "accountant."

Yes, it is a good thing we have a mayor who is heck bent on being fiscally responsible, but there is a fine line between being a penny pincher and having a realistic vision for what will add value, and money, to this community. And I am not speaking of PILOTS, necessarily. Some of these "developments" can generate taxes for the city and also boost a neighborhood, which is good for the vibrancy and economics of the entire city. The young professionals who are flocking here and who are the future of Memphis desire certain amenities and quality of living, and it's in our interest to accommodate them, within our means. And I am not speaking of "developments" as we have typically seen here since the days of Mayor Crump that line the pockets of our politicians.

I believe this is the same person who made the preposterous claim that it would cost $30 million to demo the Coliseum.

Then like most of your claims, you are mistaken. I've said nothing about the MSC other than essentially say that some folks would have the MSC stand vacant for 10+yrs, then complain when there is a viable option for its use. Point being there has been more than ample time for all interests relative to the MSC to come forward, be identified, make proposals - and yet when there is finally one viable option, the whiners come out to complain & offer advice....smh.

Simmer down, sister. I was talking about the person who referred to the mayor as an accountant...and I was not mistaken (see link below).

Feel free point out any examples when you think I was mistaken about my claims. I think you'll have a tough time. I'm not always right, but I am about 99% of the time. Carry on.
