Why do you think anyone runs for POTUS? Yes, there are those that like power, etc but the real payoff comes AFTER the term/s are over, in the private sector.

Running and losing still makes folks a household name. That's been going on just as long as folks have been running and winning. These days that notoriety is more easily translated into other endeavors though, so I agree with that.
