Anyone on here a wrestling fan? Was wondering if there was enough interest to get a running thread going about WWE. And if so, any thoughts about Summer Slam last night?
I was a diehard fan from about 1990-2000 and followed casually for a few years beyond that, I went to one live event(Rumble 2002). Steve Austin and the "what?" call and response was the beginning of the end of my fandom and guys like John Cena(though he seems like a talented good guy outside of wrestling) do nothing to cultivate my interest now. As a side note, I went to high school with Cody Rhodes(as well as his older sister).
I'm even less of a UFC guy, though there have been two guys in the history of UFC that have made me pay attention, Anderson Silva and Connor Mcgregor, I'd say CM's recent interviews regarding the dweebs in the WWE nowadays summed up my feelings pretty well.
I was really into it when I was younger with the whole Stone Cold and Rock era and lost interest. If you haven't watched in a while, WWE has stepped it up and is entertaining again.

I understand your thoughts and maybe even frustration with this. I know the people that want the company to turn Cena heel because he has been face now for basically the last 12 years. I agree he can get stale at times especially if they keep him in the same program for 5-7 months.
There is only 1 problem in him doing that, he is still the face of the company in ring and out. To turn him heel would be counter productive for Cena and the WWE as a whole. He is still the most requested superstar for Make a Wish and other charities.
I watched wresting in three phases of my life. When I was a youngster I watched Houston Wrestling from the Sam Houston Coliseum. Names like Johnny Valentine, Fritz von Erich, Ivan Putski, and others. My favorite was Wahoo McDaniel. I still wear a Wahoo t-shirt occasionally.
I drifted away for a while, high school, college, etc. But then in the mid-80s got back into it with my wife. We went to shows at the Houston Summit to see Hogan, Andre, the Junkyard Dog and others. Then drifted away again.
When my daughter came home from her first year of college she was hooked on WWE and we started watching together. Then my son went away to college and did the same thing. Been watching pretty regularly now for about four or five years. Big fan of the Wyatt Family shtick. Don't care much for the little flippy guys who defy physics.
the problem with wrestling these days is there is nothing new, everything from the story lines, to character development, to the actual matches, has been done, and redone for the last 50 years. I watch alitttle bit of RAW every week, and I can predict almost every move in and out of the ring.
Seems like he's one of the few ones to live a long life. I don't know if it's steroids, partying, or just the constant touring but hardly any of these guys seem to make it past 50.

Looking to see what Smackdown will do tonight.
Bryan vs Miz.. should be interesting
When my daughter first got me back on wrestling we were watching one night and I asked her who that guy was. She said "That's The Miz. His face is so punchable."
I'm more of a lucha underground fan myself. WWE just seems to be stuck on stupid. Their talent development and writing seems to suck balls. Vince has lost his touch if he ever had it to begin with. In some ways I even like ring of honor better. Jay lethal is great on the mic and in the ring. A lot of WWE guys were better at the smaller promotions where they were allowed more freedom and giving more opportunities. That's why you see good talent leaving WWE. (Ryback)
