Kickoff Celebration 8/23/16
11a - 2p: STORY
What I like about this is the presence of food trucks from Displaced Chef, Jeanies, Rosie's Italian, and Jera's Heavenly Sweets. This is the sort of thing I've been saying for years they should do on game day. Get a half dozen or so local vendors to come in and serve up some quality pregame grub. That way people don't have to worry about rushing home to eat (especially on week nights...). People could come right from work, or make a quick stop home to pick up the fam, and get a decent meal right at the GB.
Not sure where the best place would be to set it up. Not everybody can tailgate in lot 10 or even lots 3-4 for that matter. Maybe set the vendors up on E. Rocket Dr.--like on the corner where the practice field is. Plenty of open space and you'd catch all the people walking in from the Westwood lots, plus it's an easy walk from anywhere in the area of the stadium. I think the food trucks would attract people. Just a thought.

RE: Kickoff Celebration 8/23/16
Went over to the event. There were a lot of students taking advantage of the discounts on Rocket apparel. There were a few players milling around outside.
The food trucks seemed like a hit. I spoke for a few minutes with one of the staff members who was greeting people and told him how much I liked the idea. He said it was a bit of a last minute arrangement, thus only four vendors, but it was something they wanted to try out and see how it would go over. He was well aware that there are a number of vendors around town that have unique, quality offerings. He said that there are actually some benefits to having the food trucks rather than the university trying to do it themselves. I shared the thoughts I stated above and he said he would share them with others.
The Displaced Chef is from Perrysburg and they have Cuban/Latin offerings. I got sauteed vegetables with fried plantains over rice and black beans. It was quite good (and healthy). They also had tacos and sandwiches. Rosies truck was very popular, too. Imagine going to a game and being able to choose from food like that, plus ribs, chicken, fish, burgers & onion rings, mediterranean, etc. all from local vendors. I would want to get there early to eat!

Meh, I'm holding out for the $13.95 miniature slice of cold Gino's pizza...

Did you want cheese on that? It's $1.50 extra.
