RE: UAB Basketball Recruiting Update – August
Believe it's for high school seniors. I'm basing that off who I've seen tweet saying they are going.

RE: UAB Basketball Recruiting Update – August
Elijah Joiner, Curie
The City/Suburban Hoops Report’s No. 6 ranked player in the senior class finally saw his stock with others rise this spring and summer.
The 6-2 combo guard will be visiting Illinois State this weekend, a program and staff that has been on the Curie star the longest. Coach Dan Muller and the Redbirds offered Joiner more than 12 months ago and have remained front and center in the Joiner recruitment since.
Joiner has an official visit set with Iowa State for Sept. 30-Oct. 2, and he is figuring out a September date to visit UAB.
With the hiring of assistant coach Emmanuel Dildy at Missouri, the Tigers have stepped up its pursuit of Joiner, while Saint Louis, Duquesne, Ball State, Northern Illinois, Arkansas-Little Rock and UIC are all trying to secure a visit.

I get the feeling we are waking a very fine line. Either we'll get Reese and Jamal or we'll miss on both.

Christian Negron Sets Two Officials

The state’s top 2017 power forward Christian Negron is in the process of setting up his fall official visits. He exclusively tells PrepHoopsIllinois he has locked in a pair. See what schools Negron plans on visiting.
The Larkin power forward has been somewhat quiet on the recruiting front over last month publically. Behind the scenes he has been building relationships with coaching staffs and working his way through the process. Negron has locked down a pair of official visit dates.
Oregon State – September 17
DePaul – September 30
What stands out about DePaul?
“I like that Depaul is close to home, but I also like that they have a good understanding of where my game is and where it’s going to go. They’ve also been one of the most consistent programs in this recruiting process.”
He tells us what he likes about Oregon State.
“Oregon State is interesting because it’s a little outside of my element. I haven’t been to the west coast much. I don’t know much about them, but I do like the coaches that have reached out and I’m hoping I get a good understanding of what their program is like on the visit. I know they’ve been successful in the past so that’s always a good thing.”
Other schools that are heavily involved in his recruitment and are in the mix to secure official visits include TCU, Bradley, and UAB.
Negron is an uber athletic 6’7″ power forward that uses his athleticism to his full advantage. He is quick on the interior and finishes above the rim. Excels getting on the offensive glass for put backs. Flashes face up skill and has shot blocking potential.

RE: UAB Basketball Recruiting Update – August
NORMAL -- Illinois State associate coach Luke Yaklich noticed Elijah Joiner's talent nearly three years ago during Joiner's sophomore AAU circuit.
Since then, ISU coach Dan Muller and the ISU men's basketball program has heavily recruited joiner to become a Redbird.
Joiner took his first official visit to Illinois State this past weekend. He will visit Iowa State on Sept. 29 - Oct. 3 and is still planning a date to visit Alabama-Birmingham.
Joiner hasn't decided if he will use his other two visits. High school student-athletes are allowed to take five official visits.
During his visit, Joiner was able to spend time with Illinois State's coaches, players and met university administration and officials. He also had the opportunity to hit the court and played with the Redbirds current team.
"I like their playing style," Joiner told The Vidette on Monday. "They're very fast paced and it's a guard/athlete oriented program. That's how I like to play. The visit helped a lot. I learned a lot about the campus and program. Things that I didn't know about before."
Joiner said he spent a lot of time with senior guard Paris Lee.
"He's (Lee) a really genuine guy," Joiner said. "I learned a lot from him, we talked a lot. They really are on the come up right now."
In addition to Iowa State -- currently Joiner's only power 5 program offer -- Joiner has a handful of mid-major and Missouri Valley offers including Illinois State, Bradley, DePaul, UAB, St. Louis and Loyola (Ill.) among others.
"It's (MVC) a pretty tough conference," Joiner said. "They've got teams like Wichita State who has constantly been a top 25 team in the country during the last couple years. It's a very nice conference, I see myself succeeding in the Missouri Valley."
Joiner helped Curie win a Class 4A state championship last season. He averaged nearly 11 points and three assists per game during his junior year. Joiner is an aggressive scoring guard but also likes handling point guard responsibilities.
"I can be a point guard if I need to take over a game," Joiner said. "The biggest part of my game that I am working on is continuing to be a leader."
Yaklich has been Joiner's lead recruiter but the Curie senior noted all ISU coaches have been involved throughout the process. Joiner credits Yaklich's early involvement as a big part of staying interested in the Redbirds.
"I have a great relationship with them just off the simple fact that they offered me during my sophomore year," Joiner said. "They've contacted me and my family ever since even though I'm all the way up in Chicago."
"The thing is, they really care about me. Not just because I'm a basketball player but they've watched me grow as a person. I have a good relationship with those guys."
Joiner plans on announcing his decision by early November before he begins his senior season.

I have meant heard they're a 'package deal', but I wouldn't be surprised. I'm confident the coaching staff is being patient with them before changing their focus on other players. They are definitely our top targets for sg and c.
