Need a little help ... got a college fantasy draft on Tuesday ... is Miami for real?
I came in second last season in my college fantasy league last season (13 participants) so I have the 12th and 15th picks in the upcoming draft (it goes 6 rounds total). And to give a quick overview, we draft teams, and score points in how they perform throughout the season.

Anyway ....

I'm thinking I could snag Miami with one of those picks, but I am a little nervous about that.

I think offensively, they will perform and perform well. Kaaya and Richt and the weapons they have, and the experience they have on the O-Line, I feel good about that.

What's the thinking about their defense? Is the D-Line gonna be ok? Or are their legit questions there?

Any help would be appreciated ...

I don't know about Miami in particular but I would risk picking up any of Miami, VT or Cuse in the last 2 rounds because I expect them to be improved with their new coaches. UVA will probably be vastly improved also but that could be 6 or 7 wins.

I would think with your first round picks that you can do better than Miami.

Write off VT at your own risk.

Not sure how big a market there is, but we've been playing for 18 years. Basically, rather then players, you draft teams (in our league we choose 6), and you get points for wins. You get extra points for beating ranked teams, teams owned by other guys, and for blowing people out by 20 points or more.

4 of the 6 must come from the power 5 conferences, to force guys to go deep in those leagues, and get more head-to-head competitions.

So basically, every year, in addition to my Louisville Cardinals, I have 6 other schools I follow fairly intensely. I also am a lot more tuned in on other things in college football, based on league standings. It totally helps me when I wager on college football -- you see lines and know they are off at first glance.

It has been the most stable fantasy league I have ever been in. We accidentally invited too many when one of our guys moved out of state, so we've been stuck at 13 players for about 9 years now. I keep waiting for us to lose a guy, so we can get to a better number, but so far, everyone is hanging tight.

It's easy to manage, and it's been a blast.

As far as my first choice goes, at 12, I am hoping that Washington drops to me there, but I expect they will probably go right before I get to choose them. The first 7 or 8 will probably be (in no particular order) Alabama, Florida State, Clemson, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Ohio State. Then it will get interesting. Stanford, Washington, Ole Miss, TCU, Michigan, Notre Dame will probably go in some order, just not sure how they will fall exactly.

If I could somehow snag Washington at 12, and then Miami at 15, I'd be pretty freakin' happy with that.

But if Washington is gone, do I bump up Miami to 12, and pass up teams like Stanford, Notre Dame, Baylor, USC, Michigan State??

I may do so ... I just have a feeling that Miami is gonna explode this season. Their D-Line seems to be a question mark, and that makes me concerned. Maybe a Miami fan can chime in and ease my worries some.

Yes, we are for real this year. IMO we are underrated. Top 15 to start season. I expect 9-10 wins at the minimum.

Sounds fun. Maybe we should do something like that here. I would suggest sticking with Miami, ND & Stanford out of that group but what do I know.

Not to be "that guy" that talks about his fantasy league, but I thought it would be good to share how the draft went down.

As I said, I was hoping Washington would fall to my pick at 12. Well, they didn't. So I went ahead and snagged Miami in that spot. Which I feel pretty good about. GO CANES!

Round 1
1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Michigan (kinda high, but they could do well)
4. Florida State
5. Ohio State (again, kinda high, but they should do well)
6. Oklahoma
7. Washington (damnit)
8. Tennessee
9. LSU (I think a steal, I expected them to go top3)
10. Stanford (maybe a stretch. Lots to replace, but McCaffrey's a stud)
11. Iowa (a bit of a reach, but I like Beathard, and they return a lot)
12. Miami
13. Baylor

Other ACC teams chosen (only 6 total rounds):

Louisville (5th pick 2nd round)
North Carolina (9th pick 2nd round)
Pitt (10th pick 3rd round)
Georgia Tech (10th pick 4th round)
Virginia Tech (1st pick 5th round)
Boston College (3rd pick 5th round)
NC State (5th pick 5th round)
Duke (6th pick 5th round)
Wake Forest (12th pick 5th round)

Notre Dame went with the 4th pick in the second round

Undrafted -
Syracuse, Virginia

Looking forward to this as it makes college football all that much more fun.

Thanks for the feedback too.

Wouldn't be that hard, getting everyone together for the draft would be the hardest. Keep track the old fashioned way, with pen & paper.

Are we doing the other contest that we tried out last year?

Yes. Same 7 week sprint during the second half of the season.
