1. Holley and James both listed as slot receivers this year.
2. True freshman Rankin listed as the starting tailback with Hibbler not in the top 3.
3. Elcee Refuge third in line at OLB. That's disappointing for a 3 year starter.
4. Najee Murray moved from CB to "Apache". He seemed to struggle in one on one coverage so that might work out.
5. Quan Robinson not listed in the 2 deep at CB. He seemed to be our 3rd best CB last year so I figured he'd start opposite of Monday with Murray moving over.
James saw a lot of time @ WR/out of the backfield as a RB, so with Simmons/Dixon not playing this year, seems to make sense for James. Holley is returning from injury, is a solid RB, but started his career @ KSU as a WR. Rankin was awarded most valuable offensive player in spring ball and the other 2 RBs from LA are very talented.
Woods & White have good size @ WR, now that just needs to translate into catches, yards & points.
With Italiano out of eligibility, the Apache position needed a starter with talent and experience, so moving Murray there makes sense.
Allen Moff of RC said that Robinson should be on the 2 deep as he is a backup @ CB.
It will be interesting to see who Haynes/staff name as the starting QB late tonight/early tomorrow morning and to see what the depth chart looks like once the game notes for Penn State game are released, to see if any other changes occurred at any position.
The OL has size and experience, so hopefully that translates to better pass blocking and run blocking this season. This the 3rd year starting for Reda @ LT, 4th year for Scott @ LG, 2nd year @ C for Millin, 2nd year @ RG for Puthoff, & 2nd year for Brock @ RT, with a 5th year player @ TE.
Not sure if Refuge is over weight or coming back from injury, as he has played a lot of downs for KSU the last 3yrs @ LB. In past years he has stood to lose some weight and stop getting personal foul penalties, so maybe the coaching staff grew tired of those 2 items. Cuthbert moving to LB should help with alignment/adjustments. LB production has been lacking for a few years now @ KSU, so maybe this is the season that they turn it around? There are certainly large #s of LBs on the depth chart.
