Ole Miss bans the band from playing Dixie.

It was written by a man from Ohio and was a favorite of Abraham Lincoln who had it played upon the announcement of Lee's surrender.

I've already seen suggestions that they abandon "Ole Miss" and go strictly to "Mississippi" and "University of Mississippi".

In the end, its not really anyone else's business though.

There are many that get "triggered" by most anything and can't function if they see/hear any number of things. This is just one more example of the coddling being done in liberal academia. Some people can't function without safe spaces........that includes hearing a song......

Your culture is "problematic". It's gotta go! Cultures are only acceptable if they're indigenous non-European -- in this case they can do ANYTHING with no repercussion because it's "diverse".

My aunt and uncle are Samford alums, so I went with them to the Samford-Louisville game. It was weird hearing Dixie Land Delight being played by UofL's band, given that Louisville is at best a marginally Southern city.

This. The administration knows reverence for that song is not compatible with a contemporary major University that aspires to have a national and an international reach.

This issue is between the administration of the University of Mississippi and its fanbase.

Smart business move. Mississippi's love of keeping alive traditions and symbols that are from a time divided is why its the only sunbelt state that hasn't seen tremendous growth.
