I'm looking for some insight/advice.

For my first time ever, I'm going to a race. It will be Labor Day weekend at Darlington. I've never been a race fan, but my company sponsors a car that weekend, and I actually won a trip to the race. We get to do it all first class, infield parking, sponsor's tent and grandstand seating, all access passes...and get this ... I get to ride in the pace car for three laps before the race on Saturday.

While I recognize there a others more deserving, others that would appreciate this more than me, I'm not passing up the experience. Anyone a race veteran? Any advice?

Just go have fun. Check and see if the areas you will visiting require long pants. Some places in the areas around the cars do not allow shorts for safety reason.

RE: NASCAR
Purchase or rent a radio scanner and buy a program that contains the entry list with each team's radio frequencies.

That appears to be two pearls of wisdom already! Thanks

Are the little sponges for earplugs enough?

I have some heavy duty headphones for my scanner that are more than enough.

RE: NASCAR
The tips were helpful. Thank you. We had a great time. We hit 156 mph on the 26 degree banked track.

Something I wasn't prepared for, and really enjoyed....cowboy boots and daisy dukes!!! 04-rock
