That's true about California, but they also used to do really well in New Jersey.

If the Pac 10 had gone with Utah, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska, it could have been game, set, and match.

Texas A&M would have still gone to the SEC, and Missouri would have replaced Nebraska in the B1G. The SEC would have likely added West Virginia in the East.

The B1G would have probably still moved on Maryland and Rutgers to get to 14, perhaps at the same time as the Missouri addition to keep pace with the Pac 16.

The ACC still adds Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and ultimately, Louisville or Cincinnati.

With the Big 12 down to 6, and one of its best expansion options off the table, the only question is would it have instigated the Big East split by taking the football schools. Everyone left in the Big 12 would be scrambling for one of the last two spots in the SEC, B1G, or ACC.
