Solar City announces layoffs, pay cuts to execs
Where have all those green-jobs gone, long time passing?
Where have all the green-jobs gone, long time ago?
Where have all the green-jobs gone?
Libs had funded them everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Upstate New York is still waiting for the 200,000 jobs Hillary promised in her 2000 Senate campaign.

There are plenty of people that work in solar. Solar City had a good model for when the price of panels was high. People wanted to lease because they couldn't afford to purchase.

The price of panels is absurdly cheap compared to just a few years ago, so now nobody wants to lease. Solar City's struggles have been a boon to companies that sell PV systems.

Solar city's model was good when panel prices were high and the costs were heavily subsidized by the american and state taxpayers. But then again, what business model wouldnt.

This is the same as saying solar isnt profitable when the prices fall to the point where th ereturn on investment is 10 years. They can only make money when the ROI timeframe is 20 plus years, and the only way to get people to buy into that is if they receive a 33% tax credit to get the ROI back to 10-15 years.

I thought SolarCity was bought by Tesla? I know Musk isn't one for large work forces so I wouldn't be shocked if this is part of a strategy and was planned from the get go.

They agreed to a deal, but it hasn't gone through yet.

Solar City has been run by Musk / Musk's cousins anyway though, so it was already run the way Musk wanted.

I think the merger is a stupid idea personally. Solar City needs to shift to selling systems rather than leasing. I think they're already doing that, but selling is going to have less demand than $0 down leasing used to, so they don't need nearly as many employees as they have.

Corruption is the watchword.

These companies are frauds, nothing more and nothing less. They are frauds perpetuated on the American taxpayer, and investors stupid enough to buy the snake oil.

Musk is no Henry Ford. I cringe every time I hear the connection drawn.

Well musk's grand plan is solar sustainability for Tesla's infrastructure so I can understand the merger from a simple convenient strategic move. I can foresee a move away from leasing in the long term.

Solar City is going in the tank because they are a horrible company. I know, I tried to get them to do a solar project for me.
