2016 TEs
A year ago some of us were wondering how we were going to replace Russell at TE and speculated that Cole Gardner would be the replacement last spring. Instead CC and staff recruited Cody Tuttle who wasn't highly recruited and Sam Browning a late signee who although he had a 3 star rating from 247 sports didn't see much recruiting interest.

Cody Tuttle weighed in at 6'4 227 last year and had 33 catches for 348 yards and some nice passes out of formation. This year he is at 253. Sam Browning is at 6'5,234 and had 24 catches for 326 yards and 3 TDs. Interesting enough the two combined have similar stats to Russell. Both are seniors.Given the WR situation this year we will see dual TE formations?

The 2015 class featured 4 TEs, Kemp, Kilby, Girodat and Annee. All were redshirted (Annee I believe had an injury). Annee is no longer with the program. Kemp (R-Fr) at 6'5, increased his weight from 214 to 233, Kilby (R-Fr) a late signee last year at 6'7 and is at 239 and Girodat (R-Fr) is 6'3, 251. Girodat has a reputation out of high school as being more a blocking TE than receiving. It will be interesting to see how much playing time these TEs will get.

We have Fields a 6'4, 211 TE who appears to be a walk on and Dan Buschman 6'3,243 a junior who I believe plays on special teams.

I'm not seeing Cody Tuttle on the revised roster. Shaq Vann now wearing #5. Anyone know status of Tuttle?

Ouch, might be grades as summer semester should have just ended.

Whatever happened must have been recent?

Wow, wonder if Bunsis asked his fellow educators to flunk out the football players? 03-lmfao

(Sorry I couldn't resist).

Apparently exactly what happened. How a starter, going into his senior year, let's this happen is beyond words. It's EMU, not Stanford. I doubt he was taking nuclear physics classes.

Hopefully Browning can stay healthy the entire year, and Kilby/Kemp ready to get some live reps.

Sucks losing Tuttle. At least EMU has a little depth. Time for those younger guys to take advantage of the situation. Would not be surprised to see an OL used as a TE for blocking.

Anyone know how the younger guys look?

You'd think Browning would basically just replace Tuttle, but he had kind of regressed into the middle of the pack with Kilby and Buschman. Browning probably gets the nod over Buschman, but Buschman is just one of those consistent, sure handed guys that gets the job done. Blocks and catches the ball well, and has experience in the program.

Kilby is the guy who could be a real threat if used in the right way. Not going to block anybody, but is a serious mismatch as a receiving TE out of the slot. All of 6'7, he has been effective against DB's in practice because of his length, and athleticism for his size. Good hands as well. Far from a finished product, but a lot of potential there.

Perfect example of a player that DeBoer needs to figure out a way to use effectively. The Tuttle surprise will be a good test to see if the offensive staff is up to the task.

Man, we really need WRs to step up. Tuttle didn't amaze me last year like I thought he should've, but it's still a loss that we did not need.

Better hold your breathe. Top four receivers since camp started have basically been the 3 jucos, and the true frosh Sexton. Daugherty should be back 100% this week.

Luckily there seems to be more talent than last year, just a collective 'zero' amount of experience, outside of Daugherty.
