I think it's pretty simple.

You compile every edition of the AP poll. Give 25 points to each week's P1, 24 to P2 ... two points to each week's P24, one point to P25. Give a bonus five points to each week's P1 and a bonus ten points to the final week's P1.

The methodology they have now seems ... lacking in a way.

I wish I had time to do that. However, I'm not sure the results would be much different.
