Rice presented to Big 12
Go to Adam Coleman's Houston Chronicle article for the details, write a comment, and forward on the news to friends and Rice supporters. Whatever transpires, Owls fans should be encouraged that we have good leadership dedicated to high quality NCAA programs at Rice.

That is great news to hear, though unexpected. Since we did go ahead and present, wish our name was mentioned in those lists people around the country are throwing around to let people know we're here, too.

Very happy to see we are at least "getting an at-bat" here.

Love it. People here should comment on that Dallas article. Big XII HQ in Dallas. Guy writing that piece has way more street cred on this topic than Coleman.

Excellent! We probably do not have a chance this go around but maybe the second go around. I believe the Big 12 will add only two teams this time and two additional teams in the future.

The Big 12 won't exist in the near future. Consensus is they're done after 2025 so this is probably the last money grab.

If that's the case then they should invite every G5 that is interested. Take down ESPN with them. 😬

A lot of comments on the Chron article. Clearly people actually are interested in this topic.

Not really sure if he is serious...we do need to put a fair amount of money into the stadium..but as they say in basketball, you can't teach size...

RE: Rice presented to Big 12
Obviously, this (Rice to the Big 12) has like a 0.0001% chance of happening, but does it not seem like the idea is gaining just a little bit of public steam/traction, at least more than one would expect? If a sufficient number of sports pundits begin saying, "Rice just makes sense - good and ever-growing facilities, lots of recent bowls, good baseball, ideal academic anchor candidate," might the decision makers actually start to listen and/or follow the logic? Would that be better than a sandwich board?

I suspect not, but I'll probably try and listen to the podcast later - but that doesn't necessarily mean it was not positive coverage.

Don't know if it was part of JK's master plan, but we're getting more coverage by not being listed in the original 17...

As much as I would love to swoop in and take the spot UH thinks is theirs, I think our real audience is the AAC and MWC.

RE: Rice presented to Big 12
UH has been successful in football for only one year and this is the reason why UH has the advantage over Rice? This really does not make any sense. Remember, Rice was the charter member to the SWC and we have a deep history with Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor, and TCU, all in the Big 12. Second, our location and academic standing is second to none to UH. Our women sports program is just as good or better then UH. Our baseball program is superior to UH. Our endowment fund is huge relative to UH and in fact all the other schools trying to joing the Big 12. We of course need to improve the football program and facilities but that will happen. We have proved it can happen, especially with Dr K in charge. One final note, I think we have a great chance of joining the Pac 12 with Dr K ties if the Big 12 is stupid enough not to consider us.

RE: Rice presented to Big 12
It does seem to be getting a lot of traction and while people should know that i'm no Bailiff apologist, it does seem that the recent bowls and conference championship are lending some credibility to our football team. For instance, in comparison to Tulane, a commenter pointed out that Tulane hasn't been to a bowl since 2002, where as multiple articles and comments have pointed out that Rice has at least won bowls and been somewhat competitive in recent years.

Sorry to stir the pot, but that is what I am seeing out there in the articles and comments. I don't want to get my hopes up, but this coverage can be nothing but positive for our athletics and our school.

Another story about this from Fox 26. It lists many of our positives.
