BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Renewing a former Conference USA rivalry, UAB and Tulane have agreed to a home-and-home football series which features games in 2018 and 2021.
The Blazers host the first of the two games on Sept. 15, 2018 in Birmingham, while Tulane, members of the American Athletic Conference, hosts UAB on Sept. 25, 2021 in New Orleans.
“Regionally, this is a great game that both fan bases will be able to travel for,” head coach Bill Clark said. “This is in the recruiting radius of both schools so it should be a great series.”
When the Blazers and Green Wave take the field in 2018, it will be the 10th all-time meeting between the two programs with Tulane holding a slight 5-4 advantage. The most recent meeting came in 2012, which was a 55-45 victory for the Green Wave in New Orleans.
Perhaps the most memorable game in the series came during the Roddy White era when the two teams combined for 114 points as Tulane edged UAB 59-55 on Oct. 23, 2004. That game still holds the UAB record for most combined points scored in a single game.
UAB won the initial two games of the series with a 23-20 overtime victory in 1999 and a 34-27 victory in 2001. The Blazers’ other two victories came in 2007 (26-21) and 2008 (41-24).
This game adds to UAB’s 2018 non-conference which also includes a trip to Kyle Field to play Texas A&M of the SEC.
UAB’s future non-conference schedule:
2017:
Sept. 2: Alabama A&M
Sept. 9: at Ball State
Sept. 16: Coastal Carolina
Nov. 18: at Florida
2018:
Sept. 15: Tulane
Sept. 22: at Texas A&M
