Does Marsha want to move to the AAC where they don't allow this? Serious question. Seems like all your good recruits come in this way.

We bring in around 4-5 of these guys per year.

We would see an increase of exposure in the AAC, so that would help overcome this. We could always just start bringing in JUCOS like everyone else.

Quite the assumption.

It's interesting because some of the conference schools that have been most competitive in football for the last 10 years against us are the schools that take NQs - Troy, Arkansas State, and Marshall. Certainly a trend but it's within the rules, so no complaints. To each their own.

I said it would HELP overcome this. It definitely would.

Playing more games on ESPN, better bowl opponents, and a more prestigious conference would definitely HELP overcome this.

It honestly amazes me that people give us a hard time for taking NQs, but no one bats an eye when it comes to BYU. What they do gives them a much more competitive advantage than us taking NQs. Hell they get special privileges and have 22 year old freshmen due to "religious purposes." That is way more of an advantage if ya ask me.

There is nothing wrong with the program as long as the kid can get eligible and do well in college. This aspect varies from coach to coach. Pruett took a lot of chances with kids that rarely saw the field, synder was even worse than he was. Holiday seems to attract high talent kids who only lacked a high enough SAT/ACT score for NCAA purposes, but had a good GPA. Then there are a few that had the scores and the GPA but was misguided in school and lacked a core class. Using this standard, Holiday has had very good success in getting these kids on the field whereas Pruett and Snyder didn't have success (mostly because those kids just weren't smart enough to be in college to begin with, lacked gpa and scores). Yulee is a good example, he was last minute on his test scores and just missed the mark but had the gpa, so the kid isn't dumb. Those are the differences and its due to the coach.

In all honesty its not why were are as competitive as we are, but it doesn't hurt. Doc recruits enough solid players that are ready to roll on day one to keep us competitive. He may not be the best x and o coach but the man can recruit to overcome it.

How is a guy spending a couple of years on a mission, not playing competitive football, advantageous?

There is a HUGE difference in an 18-19 year old Freshmen and a 21-22 year old Freshmen. They are obviously working out and maturing during this time.

Thats a HUGE advantage.

I support their right to do that. Not saying it should be illegal, but thats more of a competitive edge than what we are doing imo.

The whole "non-qualifier" thing is overblown and usually just propaganda filled nonsense. It's no different than if a player goes JUCO then transfers into your given school. The big difference is they are on campus at the school they hope to play at after achieving the scores or grades required to play. Many JUCO players aim for certain schools but just don't get to be there but have the same road to get there.
