Mullens had 5 TD passes. Isaiah Jones had 3 of those. I was expecting big things from Jones this year, but haven't heard much praise. Looks like he is coming around. He has the talent to be one of our best receivers ever.

Anyone attend today?

I think Jones and Staggers from EMCC will turn out to be big time receivers for us. With his size Jones is going to be trouble for smaller defensive backs and Staggers has great speed out of the slot. These two will really help lessen the loss of Thomas and Martin from last year. Mullens is better than ever and with our receiving group, he is going to have another monster year.

RE: Todays Scrimmage
Jones is our best receiver. I thought I had mentioned that in my practice notes from the other day but maybe I forgot to. He has consistently been our best deep threat. As of right now, he's the guy. I wasn't at the scrimmage because I assumed it would be closed. But it's no surprise that he had a big day. He's 6'4 and can really run. Like a Deandre Brown Light. Not quite as tall, maybe a tick slower. But a similar type player. Not going to be great getting out of breaks or going over the middle. But on the deep throws, he's hard to contain.

5 tds sounds encouraging. please keep the reports coming. living halfway across the country from my alma mater makes it almost impossible to mine insider info.

same here....I got roasted for 'spy-gate' when Monk became head coach and ended up pegging Mullens as the starter.....all I saw was, "who is this guy....he's good!"

here's a refresher course for those that were playing pokey on ep....

http://csnbbs.com/thread-643632.html = complete thread

http://csnbbs.com/thread-643632.html = my first glance at Mullens....didn't know who he was at the time....he only had that one series....it was impressive and mistake free

it's too funny to read through the thread and how things have progressed in understanding posters over time...

the bottom line is we all crave the info and want to see the best from the young men that represent what southern miss is all about....

fingers are crossed.....this could be one of those very special years....the tools are in place and I like how Hop is playing the media spin coupled with the little tidbits I'm hearing about 'attitude'

KY jello is just around the corner.....

Not yet. There has been a lot of back and forth in practice. One day, the offense is much better than the defense, and the next day it's the opposite.

Also, scrimmage stats are deceiving. There are red zone portions and goal line portions where the offense doesn't go very far. Now, if the stats were Mullens going 28-31 for 415 yards and 6 touchdowns, that would worry me. But all we know is that he threw 6 TDs. We don't know how they came about. And someone who was there told me he actually thought the defense won the day.

he threw 5 in regular game/scrimmage format as I understand. he threw one in goaline. he threw a 50, 25, 25, 14 and 3. with 8 yard goaline td.

I think our defense will be fine and improve most every game. I'm glad our offense looked good. I was concerned about the OC stumping us/mullens. obviously, mullens looks just fine.

It's been years since we've had even an "average" defense.

Average defenses win 9-10 games in CUSA.
