I have this on VERY GOOD authority. It won't be announced by the Big 12 nor BYU because the Big 12 doesn't seek to embarrass BYU and BYU doesn't want any more publicity on this.

BYU knew of the Athlete Ally LGBT letter a while before it became public because the Big 12 showed them the letter. The Big 12 knew that this was going to become a sh*t storm and asked BYU to come out with softer language in the honor code and/or public a public statement of LGBT inclusion that coincided when BYU to the Big 12 was announced so that the league could steer clear of the LGBT groups and pressure. The Big 12 also understood BYU and told BYU if this was not possible then the Big 12 very much understood and that they wouldn't embarrass BYU with any public statements during this process nor when the Big 12 expands. The only statement you will see from the Big 12 when they expand is that the schools chosen were the "best fits". There will be no discussion of why BYU was never chosen. At least no public statements.

BYU's Board of Trustees has grown tired of the publicity and doesn't think athletic conference affiliation is worth the negative publicity and mud flinging that has gone on. As a result, BYU has withdrawn their candidacy. And the Big 12 has moved on.

Two schools were particularly responsible for stirring the hornets' nest with the LGBT groups. And that is a shame. You guys couldn't win on metrics. You won on dirty play. Congratulations.

Pretty sure the haters are the ones with a Victorian era "honor code" who discriminates against LGBT people.

No reason to get panties in a wad over something that could be completely false.

If metrics was all that mattered, you would have been picked up by a P5 years ago.

A BYU fan calling people out for a dirty play, what's next? Kansas fans going to make fun of UCF for going 0-12?

I feel bad for the young women that were expelled after being RAPED. BYU is a joke!! I wish every D-I team would band together and refuse to schedule these CLOWNS. Happy to read they will not benefit from being in the Bog 12.

this certainly seems very plausible. I could easily see the Big 12 doing what it said, and I could easily see BYU responding the way it said as well.

Not buying it. Playing in the Big 12 would put BYU in a much bigger spotlight than playing as an independent and I think the LDS leadership wants that. I expect BYU to continue lobbying for an invitation until it gets in or is turned down.

Why was this thread moved from the Conference Realignment forum (where KUGR posted it as insider news) to the Spin Room?

As of July 30, KUGR was predicting BYU would be invited to the Big 12 if it expanded by 2 or 4.

See this post.

Yup. By this all BYU had to do is the right thing & they would be in & the other "two schools" are dirty? LOL

Well we'll know in a month or two if this is legit or just BS. I do think that if BYU is not picked and the Big 12 expands by 4 teams, then it's legit information. If it's just 2 teams, it's still iffy.

See this post.

It should have been left in the Conference Realignment forum.

If true the NCAA and public Universities are guilty of religious discrimination. I can see a lawsuit coming. The NCAA should get the ball rolling and allow a FBS P5 conference of like minded "Religious" Universities to form. Asking Religious people to deny their faith is redickilious. And I'm not a mormon.

No worries. I've been told that the BYU AD is gong to be directed tbe the Angel Moroni to find gold plates that contains a new and improved student honor code....he will then bury them on a hill and will forget where exactly. He'll find them eventually but will not let any of the B12 presidents view them until he puts a bag over his head to view the ancient Egyptian text through a seer stone so that only he can translate.

How is it discrimination? Lawsuit based on what? How is the NCAA involved? Conferences can select their members based on any metric they want. There aren't any regulations preventing like minded religious universities from creating their own conference now. The B12 already has religious universities as members now.

I'm not a mormon either, but I don't want to live in a country where freedom of religion is not honored. Gay rights do not trump religious rights.

That two other schools stirred it up are what is completely false. The LGBT groups already had BYU in their cross-hairs.
