Again, he nearly beat Monken. If Alcorn had a kicker he would have. And please don't tell me THEY had more talent than us. Even in our most futile form we had superior talent to Alcorn.
Exactly!
I was on the field that night near the Alcorn bench and locker room. It was obvious from the start that team came in here expecting to win and feeling they were the better team. Maybe they were, but FWIW Coach Hopson had them ready to play a big opener on the road at a larger school and they came spring-loaded and ready to bring it.

Yup. It could easily be argued that Alcorn should have won that game. They outplayed us for 3 quarters.
We made their QB look like Reggie Collier.

RE: Predictions
I like our chances. Though with a new coach, it's hard for me to predict.
I think it will be a close game. USM: 24 KY: 27
I hope I'm wrong and that score is reversed.

USM 28 KY 24
no they don't....only in 'their' mind....
the ky jello boards are devoid of posters and sense unless it's hoops....
this stoops isn't at OU.....3-9, 5-7, 5-7 is bubby at ky jello....
it's a nickel play plus the points.....just like 21 and change against the cow patty cakes last year....
I'll resurrect the bettors thread on the cusa board as the clock ticks....then we'll see who has the balls to make it happen in that arena....based on last year???? yeah, it'll be just a few yammers w/o sac.....

RE: Predictions
Phil Steele gives Southern Miss a 103.22 power rating. Kentucky gets 109.04. This means that Phil would favor Kentucky almost -6 on a neutral field. We have to give them at least 2 for home field, so it's basically USM +8.
Thinking in terms of intangibles, I don't think Kentucky has lost to a non-P5 team under Stoops. At the same time, they've faced almost no G5 competition of note during that time. Last year, they faced a ULL team that would eventually finish 4-8, at home, and early in the season. They only won by 7 in a shootout. I look at that and figure this is a similar situation, with a somewhat better opponent. That's worth a couple points.
So I predict that it's Kentucky by 6, and that the (early) bettors will make their money on USM. Still, it's a winnable game. A win here would honestly erase a lot of bad memories.

it's a buy the hook at +7.5 for 600/500 all day long....
let the O roll and the D work as it will.....
the only downside I see is early jitter mistakes from the O.....and I have my Ray Ray Bans on.....just don't see that happening
