I think there is 1% chance of going from MAC to B12, I just see this as added credibility for the AAC to select as to backfill. "Hey if the B12 is taking a look at them, we should take a good look too!"

Possibility two is we don't get in but get in the AAC as backfill. Again great and a real possibility.
Possibility three is we band together with the other 13 who don't get in to form a new conference merging the best of the AAC and MWC.
Frankly any of those three sound wonderful to me. Lots of work to do ,but, hey, what a compliment to Sean Frazier and Doug Baker that we've gotten this far.

None of the AAC teams are going to pay a $10mil exit fee to just go play with 3/4 of the same conference.

heh. in a theoretical NIU Big 12 merger, i would expect our rears to be handed to us in the first couple of years, until we get a proper Big 12 recruiting class in and developed.

I just don't think people know how far we are from this conference. Texas and Okl will never allow this. I don't want to see us stand still, but you have to be realistic.
The ONLY way we can get on those two good side is...

Guarantee to play OU and Texas at Soldier Field or US Cellular until our stadium holds 42k. The Cell would jump on this idea no problem.

Secondly for Texas is we need to allow for 100% of NIU's home games vs UT which are not picked up for TV to be broadcast on LHN...that would force the Chicagoland Cable companies to add LHN to their offerings which would mean more money for Texas.

You cannot guarantee any game at the Cell until after the baseball season (playoffs included). The White Sox will not risk wrecking the field to say nothing of scraping away the pitchers mound and then replacing it. This means November games.

And, how would allowing the LHN to pick up any game we'd play vs TX for free force Chicago Cable companies to pick up the LHN? Let's see, jack up the rates to consumers to be able to get NIU games. Most people would not like that.

Like there is really any chance of it happening anyway. NIU probably has a bigger footprint in terms of exposure in the Rockford market.

First Saturday in Nov with a 11am or 2:30pm kickoff every year sounds like an amazing annual event.

There are TONS of UT and B12 fans/alums in Chicago right now. Last time I checked no cable company offers LHN (only dish). Adding NIU to the B12 would put the pressure on Chicago area cable companies to add LHN to their offerings. If NIU sweetens the pot by agreeing to have any/all home games vs Texas on LHN (that is not picked up) then with NIU's 145k regional alum that would put even greater pressure on the Chicagoland cable companies...yes Rockford too. More subscribers for LHN equals more money for Texas and ESPN.

I don't see how that would work since I'd think the rest of the Big 12 would block that. That only benefits Texas, and nobody else, and the rights for those NIU home games would most likely be owned by the conference, not NIU. They wouldn't be NIU's to give away.

What am I missing here? You are saying that TX would play NIU at the Cell every year? Really? What about the rest of the league schedule? Soldier Field? And if there were really tons of TX and B12 fans up here, they'd have it already.

I understand where you're coming from but the B12 isn't going to happen.

As been reported long ago the criteria that the Big 12 is looking for is as follows:

Athletics success, fan base, TV following, academic standards, integrity and shared values with existing Big 12 members.

Interviewing NIU I think it was a requirement from the NCAA.

You must interview at least one school from MAC or Sunbelt.

Ya I hear that argument if Chicago Cable doesn't have it now then why would they with NIU. Thats the thing the B12 footprint isn't anywhere close to here so most fans don't even try to demand for it. I agree its a way out there argument...but it is a potential positive for NIU so Im running with it.

RE: ESPN on Big 12 expanding
I don't think you have to worry about playing Texas or Oklahoma each year. If NIU was to get a golden ticket to the Big12, the conference would probably have North and South divisions. In a 8 game conference schedule they would play each team from the other division twice in a 6 year period. So every 6 years or so NIU would host a team from the other division once every 6 years. If a 9 game conference schedule, then NIU would host a team from the other division once every 4 years.

This is all bull. The big 12 doesn't benefit us one bit. If we're not in the AFC north by next year NIU should drop their football program.

NIU does offer something none of the other schools can offer that is for sure, a tv market gold mine.
