I was thinking the same thing, at least as far as the QB battle goes. Thinking Mitch will win out by or during the UNC game. Kinda like Rascati took complete hold of the QB job in the 3rd game against West Virginia.

Awesome to hear how schor is responding...may be a toss up, which means we have an awesome backup since a wire to wire qb seems pretty rare...

Or, bring back birdsong!! Totally kidding

I'll admit the copy/paste approach for the full article is a little much. All the articles seem to be getting posted on DNR and Rivals at around the same time, so those without DNR (like me) can just look it up on Rivals.

Thanks for posting the articles though. I usually forget to check every day 04-cheers

RE: Football Camp
From earlier in the week:
"Houston said he could see five true freshmen – defensive end John Daka, linebacker John Kinney, safety Bryce Maginley, safety Adam Smith and offensive lineman Mac Patrick – playing this fall. Houston said Daka could “be impactful on the defensive line and on special teams.” Houston added that Patrick could play right away as a substitution for the Dukes on interior of the offensive line."

If it ends up only being 5 that will be a lot less than Withers played as true fr over the last 2 seasons. I remember of the 13 true freshman straight out of HS signed in 14', 8 played & 5 redshirted (+ I think a couple of true Fr walkons played). I don't know how many the 15' class played as true fr vs redshirted last year, but quick count of this year's roster (could be off by 1) I count 9 listed as Soph (meaning they played as true Fr) versus 7 listed as rFr. Of those 6 OL signed 2015, looking at the 50s-70s #s, don't see any listed as a Soph. See 4 listed as rFr.

It seems like MM would play around 4-5 true freshmen a season, and the majority of the class would redshirt.
It seems like Withers would play about 8-10 true Fr, about 2/3 of the HS scholly signees (mostly backs & receivers; majority of lineman would redshirt).

I guess with Houston it will be more like what we saw with MM, or maybe will play few more true fr than MM, but not as many as Withers.

Seems like Houston makes practice a lot more accessible to the media than Withers did. BTW, Greg Madia is doing a nice job so far.

I still think that part of Wither's thinking was to keep channeling players through as quickly as possible. I firmly believe he had the FBS carrot dangled in front of him. As such, it would benefit him to have a lower inventory of FCS players in the hopper had we announced a move up.

RE: Football Camp
I'm hearing scrimmage at 10am today.

I got some offense perspective from the Meet the Dukes night when I talked with some OL. Super raves about the receiving corps and even more superlatives about the RBs. I love it when the guys upfront are so excited, knowing that each play is a potential homerun. I did not hear the superlatives about the QB position, but that was a week ago. Growing the QB is the biggest task for this camp IMO.

There was real excitement about the amount of new passing plays, screens, shorter stuff to RBs etc. "Last year we had like 2 plays of that stuff, this year I can't count how many plays we have" was how one OL put it.

Towards the end of yesterday's practice there was a longer pass TD from Schor to Trai Sharp that really got a big celebrate from the Offense.

I think the extra weight on Ankrah, he says 250 is accurate, is all in his arms, man he has a couple of ten pound hammers. I think quarters would break if you tried to bounce them off of Gage, man he is tight!

I hope I am not the only one excited.

Joining you in the excitement camp. T-minus 7 days, 2 hours and 56 minutes to blast off. (But who's counting) I don't know why but I'm more excited this year than in the past for the season to get started.

It's gotta be because we have a coach that allows the media to update us and a beat writer that is professional and puts out quality work

Haven't heard much about today's scrimmage but did see Schor went 5-5 with a 33 yard TD to Davis on the first possession.

Good stuff enjoyed the Houston mic'd up. JMU has definitely stepped it up in the media department. I have a good feeling about this team.

RE: Football Camp
Scrimmage odds and ends.

Something to be aware of:
Attendees are asked to show an ID to get in and your name is kept on an attendance list. No video allowed and that is emphasized during the sign-in process.

I feel that we have 2 #1 QBs and it will be interesting to see how it plays out. IMO we have so many weapons on Offense that all we need is for the QB to make good basic plays and keep mistakes to a minimum.

Punting and Field Goal kicking is a real positive, strong legs doing each.

TEs Kloosterman and Schiele are big dudes, both are listed at 245 and they are all of that. Kloosterman had a number of receptions and adds that dynamic.

After the scrimmage, the game officials spent a lot of time with the team going over penalty basics and other things. Everybody listens and pays attention. I like the camaraderie that is evident on the Defense, as they really get jacked up when they get a turnover or a good stop etc.

My only concern is the injury status of Ravenel which Coach had mentioned earlier in the week.

RE: Football Camp
I don't worry about Ravenel. From what I've seen he should be fine and if we can't win the first two games without him, we're screwed anyway. We have 6 guys who can be starting receivers. Not that I don't want him to be out there, but we have at least 6 receivers who are good so that's the last position I'm worried about.
