Yeah, the logical outcome is P4 with 16 team conferences.

However, logic isn't the driving factor. Fans don't pick a team based on logic, they don't process the news about their chosen team with logic, schools don't just use logic to decide where to align themselves. The school administration will make it SOUND logical, but you can bet emotion, pride, greed all played a part in any realignment, ever.

The logical outcome makes sense... which is why I don't see it happening.

I still say Lucas' unwillingness to let boosters & coaches "play the game" back in the '80s was the biggest factor. We got one probation and shut the pipeline off while schools like Florida State & the SEC schools around us just accepted their sanctions every few years as the cost of doing business. Most still do. Alabama gets banned from a bowl game and says, "F*** it. We'll just play the season finale at Hawaii and save a seat on the plane for the architect who's designing our 20,000-seat stadium expansion over the winter."

My whole spiel about the 50's wasn't to reminisce about the glorious early 50's (even I wasn't there)....just a reminder how we first gained national recognition, had some big victories against QUALITY teams, had some chatter about moving from small college power (remember, small college back then was NOT Delta State, Mississippi College or Slppery Rock) to a "big time" conference....then basically let it die.

We screwed the pooch and did what everyone else said we were: You're a good little school, with a good little program, but you have no facilities or money to join the "big boys"..

We then become a major college in the early 60's, began playing MSUcks and OP at THEIR PLACE every year, but still just accepted "who we are"..

Then comes the Metro Conference (FSU, Louisville, South Carolina, Cinci, VA Techetc), which few people on here seem to even remember. WE just sat back and said "thank gawd we's a part of this thang" instead of being proactive, as was Louisville.

Soooooo...our whole history is basically sitting back...making a few changes here or there...then waiting, hoping or praying that we "move on up"....and the only chance you get outta that is maybe the pray part, if God is a Golden Eagle fan ONLY..

This is an honest question. Everybody seems to blame past administrations for sitting back and not being proactive. But my question is what exactly could/should they have done ? I'm seriously asking. I don't have an opinion one way or the other on that at the moment. But I'm not just going to jump on the "terrible leadership" bandwagon just because everyone else does.

Well....not sure if we've ever had one of those man/moment/time thingees, when the stars align and we either jump, or forever hold our piece....BUT....there have been a few moments, through the decades, where many of us feel the time was ripe for us to be a "contendah", and we were NOT prepared.

THERE IS NO REASON IN HADES that we are not at least in the AAC with our former
longtime rivals....Most of us on here could have formulated a plan, let our big-time
givers and the average Joe know it is NOW or NEVER....and at the very least have given it our all.

I don't know a person in here who feels we did...
