At 21 years old, his future is BRIGHT at the world level for middle distance. Not bad for a guy who was, at best, supposed to finish 2nd at the US Olympic trials.
I see gold in his future.

The most encouraging thing is that he doesn't even like to run the 800M. He is much more comfortable with the 1500. There is definitely a lot more to come from Clayton!

Yeah, not bad for a guy who basically decided to do the 800 on a whim in the past year.

EMU alum Eric Alejandro is in the 400 hurdle semis. He runs for Puerto Rico.
EMU has had a T&F athlete in every Olympics since 1960.

Congrats to Murphy to rep the MAC. That is an awesome achievement for the US in the 800m. It is a brutal race as I have ran that event many times. And to miss breaking the American record by .34 seconds.....Johnny Gray still holds it.

I wonder if that (along with the first US medal in the event in 20 years) gives him more incentive to continue with the 800, or if he does decide to go back to his more natural longer race (1,500). I'm no expert, but seeing his kick, I think the 800 is where he needs to stay.
I'm almost inclined to say to continue to train how he has been training, then go for both at the 2020 trials. I think he had a good shot at qualifying for both this year if he decided to also do the 1,500. That could buy him another month or so to see how his body is feeling then decide in the Olympics to see which one to go after (if not both ... though that would be tough at the international level).
