Field House Track Rules
Can anyone help me with rules for running at the Elma Roane track when the band is practicing during the football season? I guess that the band director wouldn't want people running around the track. Since the law school is about to go back into session I have to budget my time accordingly and plan well ahead for when I want to run. If the track is closed while the band is practicing then I need to go ahead and figure that out on the front end.

May not help, but I used to run when they practiced 10 years ago. Never had a problem. Would you not just run around campus?

I do sprints of 50-100 yards and other sprinting workouts. The track is perfect for running straightaways/curves. I prefer running on the field but don't expect to have that ability during the season.

I think you can run it but with the entire band out there, it's just not worth it. They're gonna be everywhere. I run that track a lot and they're going to be out there just about everyday until school starts. I just wait until they're done practicing out there.

I noticed that I have to have reservations in order to run on the intramural fields beside the CRAC. Do you know whether they patrol that area very much? Like...if I jump the fence will rec people come out? Or is it not enforced like fireworks in Memphis?

They turned the basketball courts/tennis courts/beach volleyball pit into a parking lot so the University is limiting places for me to work out outside.

Not sure about those fields.

Regardless, thanks for the input. I'll ask around.

I think you would definitely be asked if you didn't have a reservation & were out there, yes.

I find the policy a little problematic since reservations seem to be for group activities only. Individuals who have no other affiliations with the physical location of main campus don't have equal opportunities to use facilities for which they pay. I often miss the rec facilities offered to the entire student body at the University of Alabama.

The fieldhouse/track area is a different animal, because it's actually managed by Athletics, so they have to sign off on anyone who uses it.

Anyone can use rec facilities at the U of M; you just have to be a member.

I understand the reasoning behind it, I'd just appreciate the opportunity to use my student id (the same id that grants me admittance into the gym/swimming area) to access the fields behind the swimming area without submitting a form. Edit: I'm a current student. The opportunity for free-play at the fields would be a perfect solution if it isn't already offered. I've emailed to figure out a solution.

RE: Field House Track Rules
I emailed them and got a reply. They keep the locks on the Echles fields during the summer to allow the turf to rebuild and then open it up to anyone with membership during the school year.

Ahhh, makes sense.
