Relieving in the Twins-Astros games. Pitched 2 2/3 innings and did not give up a run. Had 2 hits on him and 1 BB. Just called up to replace an injured pitcher for the Twins. Astros still ahead 12-6 top of ninth, but Chargois was replaced for the 9th.

RE: Chargois
Another scoreless inning for Chargois last night. (Another one of those and his ERA will drop below 10!) Pretty cool as a Rice and Twins fan to have two Owl pitchers drafted the same year (2012) make the majors. Hopefully Chargois and Duffey will both have long successful careers with Minnesota. Duffey starts for the Twins today BTW.

RE: Chargois
He's almost there, but looks like he's still got some growing pains to stick at the big-league level:
News: Duffey was sent down to Triple-A Rochester on Thursday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. (Thu Aug 25, 2016.)
Spin: Duffey was lit up his last time out, yielding six runs over three innings in a losing effort Wednesday, as he saw his ERA rise to 6.24 on the season. The 25-year-old will try to figure out what's been going wrong back in the minors, while Andrew Albers will join the major league roster in a corresponding move.
Hopefully they'll bring him back when rosters expand and he can continue to lay a foundation for the future.
Is it true that Rice football currently has more players at the top level of pros (NFL) than Rice baseball has at top level in baseball (MLB)? Who knew!

First off, I'm not sure that's true. Second, keep in mind there are no minor leagues in pro football, and the rosters are twice the size as baseball. How many do we have in the NFL-- Gaines, Callahan, Boz, Covington, McDonald, Wilson and Taylor? That's 7 if they all make the team. In MLB we have Cingrani, Duffy, Chargois, Holt and Rendon, and I think a couple others (e.g., Luetge) are on the 40 man MLB roster.

You missed Sendejo in the NFL. So that makes 8.
With regard to the MLB, Duffey is no longer in the MLB (as GoodOwl posted). I'm not sure who Lutege is, but a quick google didn't turn anybody up.
Jordan Stephens, Matt Ditman, and especially John Williamson are playing pretty well in the minors, but the guy who has absolutely imploded is Zech Lemond. He might not be in the MiLB come next spring. Leon Byrd is also no longer in the minors.
Shane Hoelscher is also kicking around in the minors.. Batting about .270 in A-ball right now.
I'm sure there are a couple other guys in the minors that I'm forgetting.

Paul Janish and Josh Rodriguez are both playing well at AAA. I'd think Janish could get called up when rosters expand. Lucas Luetge has been at Salt Lake City all season. He's 6th all-time in games pitched in the majors by a Rice pitcher, at 111, and pitched for Seattle in 2015.

RE: Chargois
Yeah, I didn't matriculate until Fall 2014, so I didn't really start following Rice baseball until Spring 2014.
Luetge's last season at Rice was when I was 11/12 years old, so that goes back a ways.
Rodriguez is even older, and has never made the majors.
I had heard of Janish because of his short stints in the majors.

Not to be nit-picky, but Rodriguez did have a short stint with the Indians in 2011. He's had a number of decent years in AA and AAA.
Janish has played full seasons at the major level, primarily because of his fielding. At the highest level, he has been at the top end of the charts in some of the peripheral fielding stats. And one of the reasons he might get another September call-up.

Rick, thanks for the clarification on Lucas Luetge. Duffy will likely be back with the Twins when the rosters are expanded in September. BTW, John Simms is also moving up in the minors and believe he's currently pitching solidly in AA...and Skyler Ewing is showing good power numbers, though his AVG needs to improve a bit.

Of the four listed in the majors, all but Chargois are either on my NL or AL fantasy league teams. For Rendon and Cingrani that takes a little more effort, as the NL league, (Fourth Floor League, from 4th floor Sid Rich has 5 Rice 'owners', all of whom have been with the league since we were at Rice in the early 80's.
