Why Are Elites Out of Touch? They Think Anyone Who Disagrees with Them Is Crazy....

The article talks about the "elite" not understanding that others actually disagree with them. More broadly there is a general disbelief that anyone could possibly have a legitimate reason for disagreeing with you. The elites thing the masses are crazy or angry. The masses think they are evil. The Democrats think Republicans are either evil corrupt thieves or nasty homophobic racists or both. Republicans have similar thoughts about Democrats.

There is just a general intolerance of different views. My Dad tells (jokingly) of how back in 1964, a lot of his friends lied to him. All of his friends said they would vote for Goldwater, but Goldwater didn't get that many votes in the entire state! Its not new that we tend to surround ourselves with people who think alike, but its become a lot easier. And the more isolated, the easier it is to think evil of the others. Progressives tend to isolate themselves in urban bubbles. When most Americans lived in small towns, it was more difficult to separate from people who thought differently. And you saw them in more contexts so it was harder to think evil of them. Its not a good recipe for getting our government to work when the sides have no trust of each other.

Indeed.

Maybe, just maybe, people actually have good reasons for being polarized instead of this elitist thesis of "what's wrong with these people that they can't seem to work together to find common with my view?

On a lighter but additionally spot on note: When will idiots on the other end of the political spectrum see things my way?

In an election cast as the common man versus the elite Trump will win.

Well we know Hillary and Donald are crazy. Its just that the elites think everybody who voted for Donald or Brexit or Bernie or ... is crazy. The article was actually written by an Israeli. Its not only an American phenomena.

Perhaps everyone isn't connected 24/7 to the constant stream of misinformation that is the media (traditional or social).

I think anyone who votes for either of these two crapbags is crazy. We should just pull a random Social Security number of some American, if they're over 35 put them in. I doubt it would be much worse than Trumpillary.
