If we don't get in, it'll be much easier to win the American. At least we'll be competing for conference championships every year and can hopefully maintain recent football success and try to better our position the next time conference expansion fires up again. After everything moves to a P4 we join up with the best of the teams that were left out. A reformed "leftover" B12 Conference is still a move up from where we are now, even if it isn't the top.

It depends how badly the AAC gets gutted. This is not a bad conference currently. But if we lost 2 or 3 teams and we miss the boat, it will be a sad state of affairs.

AAC will take a major hit from this. That being said, I think we'd have to keep pushing to improve our athletics and image. Very few people anticipate that expansion will be done once this occurs. If/When the schools do break away from the NCAA, most believe that there will be ~80 schools included (4 or 5 conferences). If that's the case, there are still spots available.

Short term answer: limp on for a few years, maybe a decade at best.

As long as the AAC has a shot at a NY6 bowl the remaining teams will have a chance to improve their prestige. In theory, the road to a good bowl game could be easier with a couple top tier teams out of the league.

How the finances work out, I'm not sure.

It'll be devastating in every way, especially if they add 4 & we're aren't in. If they add 2 (excluding Memphis) I guess there could be hope for the next round of expansion, but hard to keep getting our collective hopes up ...

I think it'll be more of the same if we are left out. Competitive in a weak conference with spotty fan support. Just my opinion...

If we do get in...think it'll set the city on fire.

We keep improving. Every time expansion happens, some say it's the final opportunity to go BCS or P5, but I disagree.

Average 8-10 wins per game, keep average attendance about 40K. Re academics, show positive movement in the metrics school presidents care about.

With our geography, decent TV market, and the # of athletes our area produces, we'll be fine.

President Rudd has publicly committed to investing $500 million in athletic and academic infrastructure over the next five years. That investment will greatly improve the image and quality of our university, and shouldn't hinge on whether or not we get an invitation to the Big 12. If we don't get in, I think we'll be just fine with that kind of university leadership.
