If the Big 12 expands by 4, I expect the Pac-12 to expand to 14 to keep pace. UNM and UNLV are probably the two most likely additions.

That's an idea: let's make a list of schools that have NOT sent a letter to the Big 12.
Cheers!

Big 12 is now the Big East. Entry point for G5 into P5.

I would think those two schools would be borderline academically by the PAC-12's standards, plus both have garbage football. Great basketball fan bases, tradition, and facilities though. And obviously it makes geographic sense. If either school moved up a few spots in the academic rankings and showed a pulse in football, I could see it happening. They don't have a lot of options out west for expansion.

I've said that for years, both could explode if they simply put together a couple 10 win football seasons. Looking at the academic lists, UNLV probably has a lot more catching up to do to be "PAC worthy". UNM isn't too far off. Neither have pro teams with nothing else in their markets. Kind of logical picks if they had good football. San Diego St would move up in the sweepstakes if the Chargers left. Heck, they'd explode if the Chargers left IMHO.
Cheers!

The Pac isn't going to expand until it is forced to and if it does expand, just how would adding UNM be of any benefit?

Something I highly doubt the Pac would overlook is the economics involved. New Mexico has the fourth lowest per capita income of the 50 states. There's nothing going on there which would suggest that's going to change and it really limits UNM's potential.

It wouldn't...unless Texas was included and NM was "on the way" to Texas from Arizona. A lucky Rutgers lotto win....But I doubt the PAC expands unless Texas is the choice. The PAC is so picky that they turned down OU/OSU a couple years back. No UT, no dice.
Cheers!

Nothing going on there except UNM. The states largest employer ironically. Not much private industry. All Government stuff like military and labs. It was part of my territory in oil sales. Eastern NM used to boom with oil fields but it's fizzled to nothing. My brother was a school teacher in Hobbs, NM. More Texas than NM. They say "y'all" Cheers!
