Update from the R Blog http://www.riceowls.com/blog/

Day 1
Quote:Quarterback Tyler Stehling: "I definitely prepared a little bit harder (this offseason) for this for four years since I've been here. I watched a lot of film, just staying in the playbook, just getting the ins and outs of this offense. That's probably the biggest preparation I did."

Day 2
Quote:Defensive Lineman Zach Abercrumbia: ..."You have to stay focused to be in the right place at the right time. When you get to this level, talent is everywhere. It's he guys who have technique and who give the extra effort are the ones who will separate themselves from the rest."

Day 3 update:http://www.riceowls.com/blog

Quote:Offensive Lineman Connor Patterson: "...After three bowl games, I honestly think we got complacent. We thought it was just going to be given to us because we were the new version of Rice Football. Last year we kind of fell off. So now understand that we've had those highs and we've had the lows. Going into the year the goal is to focus on the highs and eliminate the lows."

Thanks.

Since there is nil coverage from any Third Party news sources, Chuck doing a good job with updates, blogs, videos, getting them on social media, etc. and keeping all close to the action by just going direct to the fans. Nice job of threading the needle of being entertaining/semi-informative while also not showing anything of substance that the competition could see and get an advantage from.

And last year, Stephanie was literally writing an article a day at the Chron. A few of us made a push to try to support her then too, but it ended up being mostly Tiki, myself, and a few others posting on her stories. Also, there is both a Rice Athletics channel and a Rice Basketball channel on Youtube, where many of the videos in the OP show up. I am subscribed to both, but sad to say the Basketball channel only has 100 subscribers and the Rice Athletic channel only has 358 subscribers. Surely we can get more people from this board alone to watch those videos?

RE: Rice Fall Camp Blogs and Videos
Problem with Coleman is that one of every 20 tweets is about Rice. Much more focused on local HS and other local sports issues which creates noise/clutter in Twitter feed > value of Rice info you get. Unless you subscribe to the Chronicle, very little there and even if you subscribe, you are looking at 1-2 articles/week. In other words, not much coverage.

I applaud Rice/Chuck's efforts to just bypass most of the third parties and go directly to the fans. Winning and getting to a more relevant conference will bring the third parties back to South Main as they are just economic animals following eyeballs but for now, Rice is doing the right thing taking control of its destiny to keep that connection between program and fans.

He has a different Twitter for Rice, @RiceChron.

I copied it from the Adam Coleman thread. Not sure why that doesn't work, but you can use the link in that thread to get there.

Agree. While not as in-depth as the stuff we used to get from MK (when he was at Chron or within the athletic department), it is great that Chuck has had time to provide us with some more information about daily practices. The small tidbits on players are definitely my favorite parts. It is much appreciated!

Latest update of the R Blog

http://www.riceowls.com/blog/

Quote:Tight End Robby Wells III: "It (adding 30 pounds to his frame during a redshirt year) has given me a lot more confidence about my physical abilities especially when it comes to blocking or coming inside the trenches and taking on a linebacker....It's definitely a lot easier to move some of those bigger bodies around. Blaine Padgett is a huge guy and last year it was a struggle for me to block him..."

So has anyone looked at the roster lately? Lot's of surprises.

The following walk-ons are missing:
Arthur Bradshaw Saf
Taylor Knopf - Place Kicker
Ethan Marks - RB
Carter Tomsu - QB
Anthony Price - Place Kicker

The following have made some major weight gains:
Robbie Wells TE - 270 lbs (+30 lb gain)
Destri White Safety - 215 lbs (+10 lb gain)
Tyler Stehling QB - 225 lbs (+10 lb gain)
Jackson Tyner QB - 240 lbs (+10 lb); Tight End potentially?
JT Granato QB - 225 lbs (+10 lb gain)
Nashon Ellerbee WR - 205 lbs (+20 lb gain); Back to RB?
Quinton Riney TE - 260 lbs (+15 lb gain)
Trey Martin Center - 305 lbs (+15 lb gain)
Ty Carter Deepsnapper - 270 lbs (+25 lb gain)
Trevor Long WR - 230 lbs (+15 lb gain)
Elijah Garcia DT - 310 lbs (+25 lb gain) He was reported as 270 lbs when he signed his LOI in February.

By the way, no way I believe that Blaine Padgett is only 250 lbs. He is huge.

Marks and Tomsu were off the team before last season.

Knopf graduated in three years.

Bradshaw, Price, and Brandon Hamilton are the three losses from Spring->Fall.
