Mayden is really the only guy who is a tall, fast "field-stretcher." Trevor Long is long, but not that fast.

Hence why I said Cephus not Myers.

Here is a thought, who is replacing Bob (Luke Turner)?

Someone who can run, pass, catch, and return kicks?

Austin Walter? Astin Walter?

Yes, I agree about Aston.

I would say that these three are the most likely candidates:
Aston Walter
Nate German
Jordan Myers

We know that Aston can run the wild owl. By default, the fact that Nate is still listed as a WR/RB seems to be a give away as to his role. But Jordan Myers might be someone to think about. He played more RB than WR his senior year at Dickinson. I just don't know if I have seen footage of him throwing the ball. Nate and Aston are a departure in that they are not physical bruisers along the lines of Bob, Turner Petersen, or Jeremy Eddington. Jordan Myers definitely fits that mold. But can he throw well enough to present a passing threat?

Pass rush should help, but we need to read and react more quickly, and make plays when we do get in position to do so. It seems to me to be a historic weakness of Rice secondaries, going back to the Neely era (seriously), that we get in position to make plays but don't make the plays. It's annoyed the hell out of me for 50 years, and I've never understood why we don't.

IIRC, we lost that game vs. #2 UCLA precisely that way. WE have reports of improved coverage this year. But every team has those at this time of year. Guess we will find out Sept. 1.

One of the ones foremost in my mind when I made the Neely era comment.
