Good to see Rice finally catching up to the rest of us. That sure is a nice, big stadium for 20,000 per game. Average attendance the last five years 18,861.

Rice could probably tarp off the upper deck not facing TV cameras.
The stadium looks really nice without the end zone seating.
They have money a great location and history on their side.
I believe Rice is the top academic school in the G5.

Don't tell Tulane that. They might hyperventilate.

I read that on the internet so it must be true.

It would kind of nice to see a conference like this put together.
Baylor, Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech, Northwestern, Rice, TCU, Tulane, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest

It's hosted a Super Bowl and Kennedy gave a speech from there. It's big but has a ton of history.

50 years ago in today's world is ancient history. Have to feel for the older Rice fans. When the SWC broke up their program pretty much died.

They were abysmal their last few decades in the SWC. Their last bowl game as a SWC member was 1961. They did sahre the SWC conference title in 1994, but did not get the tiebreaker with a 5-6 record. They had two winning seasons in 30 tries until moving to the WAC. They've done well since then and in CUSA, getting 8 winning seasons in 20 tries and a 3-2 record in five bowl appearances (7 in the previous 80 seasons).

That triggered memories. If I recall correctly, most of the conference tied for conference championship. The tie was because A&M, with a 10-0-1 record, was on probation that year because of Greg Hill and others. The NCAA hit A&M with "Lack of Institutional Control". A&M's tie was to a 1-9-1 SMU team.

Looked it up: (The Mustangs, Cougars, and Aggies were the only SWC teams not sharing in the conference title that year.)

I agree but it's still some neat history in that stadium. Rice has such a small alumni base and little local interest that a smaller stadium would really help them, ala Tulane.

I agree JFK's "We Choose to go to the Moon" speech is an important part of US History. Sadly, I doubt 10% of college age students even know who JFK was. One good thing is Rice Stadium is the second oldest stadium still standing that's hosted a Super Bowl. Hard to believe the LA Coliseum, Rose Bowl, Superdome and Rice Stadium are the only sites remaining from the first 21 Super Bowls.

I believe they did a study about dropping down to I-AA and concluded that they would lose more by dropping down. Of course unlike Idaho they had a conference home in the FBS.
