Ole Miss also lost their best WR in Treadwell to the NFL didn't they?
The offense may still be good...but not as explosive as last year. They may have to run more to make up for it.

Ole Miss overrated. UTK may be underrated.

Ya, 30 votes for them is crazy high IMO... Oh well, preseason polls are particularly worthless in college football.

Top 25 match up in Oxford on October 1st?

Possibly, I'm not sure we will garner enough votes to be ranked at that point though. If we do beat Ole Miss and are sitting 4-0 I think we would be ranked. Ole Miss plays Florida State and Alabama in its first 3 games, so I don't know if they will even be ranked when we play them if they lose both of those.

Yeah, after I posted that, I took a look at OM's schedule. BRUTAL!

They may be 1-3 by the time we play them. Better chance that we'll be 3-0 and ranked, with them unranked...

Yes it is. I mean they did beat Alabama last year before we played them, but I don't think they are as good as last year and Bama is really good again lol. Florida State is also going to be great, so I can see them losing both.

Memphis might be ranked at 3-0 but I highly doubt it, we would have to see a whole lot of teams lose some games that are ahead of us, but it certainly is possible.

RE: First Coaches Poll - Week 1
Ole Miss will almost certainly not be ranked by 1 Oct.

Despite the nation's ladyboner for the SEC West, I can't see a team with two losses still ranked that early in the season.

If Memphis is 3-0 on 1 Oct, I still can't see us being ranked either. FCS and Kansas will register on absolutely nobody's radar and we had a gutsy win at a good Bowling Green team last year that absolutely nobody cared about.

We'll be RV but probably outside the T30.

College football polls are as worthless as a helmet on a Kamikaze pilot. Just ONE of the things which make the game a joke ... along with all the cheating and selective rules enforcement.

They aren't "worthless" because the initial poll sets the narrative for "good" wins early in the season. Teams can lose a few games early and still remain ranked or teams that are unranked can drop an early game (even close) and not sniff the top 25 for weeks.

I really wish all polls would wait for four weeks until they were released.

Amen. Polls shouldn't be a thing until a few weeks into the season.

I believe that is what the Harris Poll tried to do.
