Olympic Dukes?
There aren't any Dukes competing in the Olympics this year as far as anyone is aware, correct?

Jacob Wukie (won silver in 2012) made the 3rd (of 3) stage of qualifying but is not on the final archery roster going to Rio.

Softball is back in 2020 in Tokyo. Maybe some Dukes will be there, including ones that are still in HS right now.

Hard to believe we don't have any representation. Meanwhile, UVA has 18 people going (14 athletes, 2 alternates, 2 coaches). I thought we were the best in the state?

Come now lets be realistic.....UVA is almost always good at the Olympic type sports (swimming, rowing, wrestling, track & field, etc....) and let's see as a result of title IX JMU cut over a decade ago men's swimming & diving, wrestling, men's track & field, archery programs and does not have a rowing program. So how does this come as a surprise to anyone is a surprise to me.

You got me on rowing and track & field, but UVA is still sending 8 in sports JMU also has:
- Field Hockey (1 + 1 alternate)
- Women's Soccer (2 + 1 alternate + 1 coach)
- Swimming (Women) (1)
- Tennis (1)

UVA has also been longtime powerhouses in those sports, while we're relative upstarts here. If we keep up on the W Olympic sports like last year we'll have some in the next games.

Yup, got to have a long history of success to get coaching positions. And there soccer and tennis programs are very good and have been for a long time. Yeah JMU has a national title in FH but that was back in the 1990s.
I don't see it as a slight at all and would expect UVA to have around 10 athletes for every summer Olympics.
If we want to compare to our peers in the state --- what kind of Olympic representation does W&M, Richmond, Liberty have?

Not really a surprise that CoC has 4 competing in Sailing. Good luck to all the athletes (especially those representing the Stars and Stripes!)

RE: Olympic Dukes?
Possible future Duke and future 2020 Olympian, rising sophomore Britton Wilson from Godwin HS in Richmond. As a HS freshman this past season she was 5A 300 meter indoor State Champion, 5A runner-up in the outdoor 400 and the New Balance Nationals Freshman 400 meter National Champion in meet record time of 54.30 (2 seconds off the Olympic Trials qualifying standard). Britton is the daughter of former (early 1980's) JMU cheerleader and sprinter Leyuani (Wani) Wilson (formerly Saunders) and sister of current Dukes track & field athlete Jantsen Wilson.

Update on Britton: She broke the 32 year old US high school sophomore class National Record in the indoor 400 meters taking 3rd at the New Balance Nationals in 53.25 seconds. Olympian Sydney McLaughlin (HS senior) set the overall National Record winning that race. This past weekend, Britton was 5A state champion in the 200 and runner-up in the 400 and earlier in the season she ran the #3 outdoor 400 meters time ever in VA. Hoping she will choose to go to JMU but the SEC schools are after her (UF, UT and UGA)

RE: Olympic Dukes?
It'll be tough for her to go to JMU if the SEC starts offering.

An update on the Wilson sisters:
Jantsen (JMU senior) won the CAA triple jump this spring and had the second longest jump in JMU history which qualified for the NCAA East Regional meet.
Britton, senior at Mills Godwin HS in Richmond and University of Tenn signee is still making strides toward becoming a future Olympian.
She just won the USATF U20 (athletes under 20) Junior Championships in the 400 hurdles down here in Miramar, Florida this past Sunday in 56.36 to make the US Junior Team for the Pan Am Games in Costa Rica in July. She has only run the 400 hurdles 5 or 6 times ever. She is tied for the #3 Junior time in the world and less than a second off of the world leader. She set the VA State outdoor record in the 400 meters (52.06) and ran the #2 US all time indoors in the 500 meters. She is the #1 HS athlete in the US in the 400 hurdles, the 300 hurdles and #5 in the 400 meters. She was voted Gatorade Female Track & Field Athlete of the year in VA. She is the sweetest and most humble athlete you would hope to meet. Hopefully we will see her in the 2020 Olympic Trials next summer.
