That would mean the ACC would lose

FSU-Miami
Clemson-GT
NC State-UNC
Wake-Duke

None of those schools would go for that.

My guess is David Teel has been fed accurate information and that we will be heading to 9 game conference schedule...That is what ESPN wants

I do too. If it causes the southern teams to lose a home game, they should be compensated somehow. Maybe adjust the bowl money distribution?

The ACC's cut will be increasing along with the teams, but I doubt their expenses went up proportionately. Perhaps they could use a portion of that money to compensate the teams with 5 away games.

The vote to decide now failed and this may work to the ACC advantage. The ACC may go back to ESPN and ask for help in arm twisting the SEC to agree to an ACC-SEC agreement in lieu of the 9th conference game. This would match the other 3 P5 conferences 9 conference game schedule.

An ACC-SEC agreement would assure the four annual match-ups and the remaining 10 teams from each conference could work out their schedules between themselves.

I really have little interest in playing SEC teams on a regular basis. Occasionally is fine, but in terms of a regular rotation of match-ups I'd rather we play PSU, WVU, Maryland, and Rutgers. And I think those games would benefit the ACC and SU more than the vast majority of SU-SEC match-ups.

Honestly, I'd rather play Miami and VT OOC more as well, though the concept is an odd one and would much prefer to play them in conference (more than we do now) with a 9 game schedule. But we know that isn't happening for good reasons.

Cheers,
Neil

I think you are on to something, however I do not think that ESPN is in the middle, but the ACC Ads would be wise to see if the SEC is interested in Schedule with the ACC more... Why because clearly ESPN will give the same mandate to the SEC in 2024...and if the ACC is on a 9plus1 then it will be harder for the SEC to stay at an 8plus2

How does it do that? Your still taking the two division winners & will still have unbalanced schedules.

You seem to be assuming that, in any given year, either FSU or Clemson will not be one of the best two ACC teams. That may be correct, but recent history (the last five years or so) would suggest otherwise.

On another thread, I suggested that, if we go to a 9 game schedule, we also realign the divisions by seniority in the league. That would put Clemson and FSU in different divisions. It would also put GT and Clemson in the same division and FSU and Miami both in the other one, whereas they are currently permanent crossover partners.

I further suggested a scheduling model in which each team has one permanent crossover, and two other schools that they alternate, playing each one every other year. In this model, the four southern schools are either each other's permanent partner or one of their alternating partners (Clemson-FSU and GT-Miami would be permanent partners) . It also puts all four NC schools in the same division, along with Virginia, Clemson and GT, reestablishing long time rivalries among those schools.

In this model, there is IMO a better chance that we would have the two best teams in the CCG. The downside is, we would usually have a rematch in the CCG, since all the historically best teams would be playing each other more often even if they are in different divisions. It would be much harder for any team to emerge undefeated (or even with a single loss) from both conference play and a CCG. On the plus side, our champion would likely command greater national (and committee) respect because of these challenging schedules.

There is no question that teams with an annual SEC rivalry game will not always be able to have seven home games. But because now a majority of P5 conferences will have this same problem, that might provide impetus to making FCS games pre-season exhibitions only to compensate for the loss of gate revenue.

Until that happens, though, every other conference that mandates 10 P5 games, but doesn't have a scheduling arrangement with somebody like Notre Dame, will still be able to muster 7 home games in most years. For a school like Wake, Duke, BC or Syracuse, who don't have very high attendance by P5 standards, the loss of a seventh home date isn't as painful as it is for schools with above average home attendance. It's hard to come up with an equitable way to compensate them that league members would agree on.

Do not let this Clemson fan near the phone when it is time for Clemson to cast their final vote for 8+2 or 9+1. :)

you seem to assume FSU will have Jameis Winston and Clemson will have Deshaun Watson at QB ever year.

Va Tech has the most ACC titles since expansion, G Tech has 3 which 1 more than Clemson.

I'm perfectly fine with a home and home series against a lot of the teams from the B1G, Big 12, and Pac-12 also.

I've decided that I'm for an 8-2 model, but I would very much like to see one of those 2 games be against an ACC team. However, I don't think that it should be required.
