Quote:With regard to the Big 12’s long-rumored and much-anticipated expansion bid, the candidates to join the conference can be broken down into two categories.
1) Schools that everybody is talking about as legitimate candidates (BYU, Houston, Cincinnati, Boise State, UConn, USF, UCF, Colorado State, etc.).
2) Schools that Temple is talking about as legitimate candidates (Temple).

The author is a LaSalle alumn who enjoys trashing Temple and trolling Temple fans in his columns. One of the highlights of the column is at the end where after calling Temple delusional he speculates that FSU and Pitt might want to leave the ACC and Temple could then move to the ACC. Murphy isn't the sharpest tool in the shed

Nobody at Temple is talking about the Big 12 other than a cursory, private, expression of interest (so as to later not be accused of having done nothing). So the idiot author is shadow boxing.

RE: We feel your pain Temple.
Another hatchet job story by Murphy. He’s a LaSalle grad who has a serious bug up his butt when it comes to Temple and especially the football program.
He’s the same guy who a few weeks back when Temple was in the process of changing the president he posted this gem of an article http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/coll...ium_.html.
It pretty much shot his argument in the butt when the BOT came out and said the stadium project is still 100% on track regardless of the search for a new president.
His views are jaded and from what I understand from friends living in Philly he doesn’t hide it very well.

RE: We feel your pain Temple.
Some older UH fans may remember a Houston Chronicle reporter named Dale Robertson that was in fact a UH grad himself, but was just so anti-UH in every one of his articles, whether it had to do with football, basketball, or even academic matters.
His constant negativity about UH got so bad that some folks were pushing to create a bumper sticker with a caricature of Dale Robertson on it, reading "Don't be a Dale!"
I think the Chronicle got wind of this and pulled the leash on him, not letting him write anymore stories about UH, so there is hope, if the fans and alums of Philly complain about this writer, maybe you won't have to read his garbage anymore.

We deal with it here in the Cincinnati market as well.

Houston and SMU aren't the only ones who can play politics. Temple's addition to the Big 12 was just endorsed by the assistant deputy mayor of Upper Tredyffrin Township, PA. Eat that, Texas!

What passes now as journalism is nothing more than weakly disguised opinion pieces. Outrageous headlines and stories that rarely contain quotes other than from the famous “source close to the situation that wish to remain nameless” all designed as click bait.
Opinions are like a-holes, everyone’s got one and everyone thinks everybody else’s stinks but theirs.

We have one of those around NIU, some UofI alumni with a knife to sharpen because his school can't compete with NIU on the field

Philly media is not like other places where there is a cheerleading section for the local college team. This guy has a regular column, which he seems to use only for trashing Temple. Most of the 32 replies were pro-Temple.
I take this (italics) back after reading the rest of the replies. We all live this to some extent.

I actually think Temple will be fine. I envision them as a school that doesn't think it's "too good" for a league and I don't think fans/alum will bail. Let's say the AAC loses a couple teams. The AAC is still one of the top G5s. Temple will still be mostly unchanged and in position to compete in both major sports. There are worse things than being on the short list of possible winners of the new AAC hoops and relevant for the Access bowl race.

The Cincinnati Inkquare AND all local media's football season m.o. is to promote the local high schools' Friday night games, and then talking about the other *local* colleges. You know, like UK, UL, to$u, ND.... Oh and then mention the University of Cincinnati (city's biggest employer btw and just happens to share the same name as the local rag). To say they've been the biggest cheerleaders of UC is comparable to saying the captain of the Titanic was supportive of the iceberg. Hence the wide success of our various sports blogs. Heck, one even broke the news of President Ono leaving and totally scooped the locals. They got skunked.
But hope springs eternal for we Bearcats re: the local media. We operate under the idea that "Lookit all this manure! Get a shovel - there's got to be a pony under there somewhere!"
