Non Conference schedule many years out
Georgia State - Atlanta
South Alabama - Mobile
ULM - Louisianna
UTSA - San Antonio TX
North Texas - Dallas/Ft Worth

Ok...I totally understanding giving Arkansas State a home and home series due to our long term history

But I'm at a loss why we would offer/schedule 1 for 1 games with these schools above over the next few seasons.

Is there a recruiting advantage of making these deals?

I can only guess there MIGHT be a total of 15,000 total fans in the stands for GA State, ULM, South AL, and UTSA

THERE MUST BE SONETHING IN THIS FOR US.

I just don't see it on the surface

Hopefully, if things go well, we will be buying these games out. If they don't go well, we pretty much will be on the same level of those teams anyway.

There was a recruiting advantage in all of those games for us. Each are very winnable games within a tank of gas from Memphis. There is still recruiting advantages in each of these but should the BXII/BXIV happen I'd say the value of the UTSA and NT games is questionable. JM2C

You are beating your head against a brick wall;. No excuse for playing many of those teams at their place. Especially if we get in Big XII

It's called WINS.

Coaches get job security (and bonuses), while teams move up most polls due to wins vs ANYONE...hence why Memphis and some others have done a great job in securing 7 home games most years (others play just 6), plus schedule very winnable home-home series vs lesser G5 programs.

Same process is applied in scheduling Bball games. Cal loved playing and beating the teams which had won their little conferences to go to the NCAA the previous year.

But as we saw with Pastner, that only works if you get the WINS.

With our upcoming Big 12 schedule, we're going to need some cupcakes in the non-conference.

The first few years, we're going to follow the K-State model.

I agree with that but we also should be playing the majority, if not all of those games at home when we get in the big 12

Miami built its program with cash, hookers, and cocaine.

I disagree, the cash and hooked came after it was built, Miami played anybody anywhere and landed in the acc. U play chumps the only thing that can happen is bad, u lose to them

RE: Non Conference schedule many years out
I don't necessarily agree with it but I definitely buy the recruiting angle.

The Big XII has some of the worst OOC programs. Baylor, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, others, all frequently take home-and-homes to play an away game at MAC, C-USA-level programs.

But they're also playing nine P5 games at a minimum. Ten if they schedule at least one P5 OOC.

I'm just happy as long as we keep a home-and-home with a P5 OOC. I really like the UCLA and Missouri series, and I'm not thrilled about SEC OOC, but Arkansas and State are fine.

Big games bring in recruits. Playing at UCLA, beating BYU, and beating Mississippi did more to help our recruiting base than any trip to Atlanta will, unless it's to take out Georgia Tech.

I've asked you a hundred times to give us an example of your ideal OOC schedule, but you have refused to do so. What is so scary about that?

You used to whine about playing on the road first, but that isn't the case with the upcoming South Alabama, ULM, UTSA, Arkansas State or North Texas series.

You can't and don't want to play UCLA, Mizzou, olemiss and Mississippi State every weekend.

The ONLY minor criticism I have with the OOC scheduling listed in the link below is that we won't have a quality OOC home game in 2018. Other than that I have no problem with it whatsoever.

I think a straight up home and home is what bothers most.

A 2 for 1 would've been acceptable.

Even when RC and Tommy lobbied for the MTSU and A-State series, I believe both were 5 game deals that were 3 home, 2 road.

I know this - we wouldn't schedule most CUSA or SunBelt teams to a straight up home and home in hoops.
