Oh, we aren't playing 2004 Temple?

Army wins in overtime.

Army covers & gives Temple fits.

To our ECU friends, what in the world is a Catamount? I've never even heard that word before. That's even more mysterious than having "Sandites" as a nickname.

I assume it's another word for mountain cats.

Correct.

cat·a·mount
ˈkadəˌmount/
noun
NORTH AMERICAN
a medium-sized or large wild cat, especially a cougar.

Correct my high school's mascot is Cougars and our yearbooks are Catamount

Tulane @ Wake -10 ESPN3
Wake is pretty bad so Tulane could pull the upset, but they're breaking in a new coach on the road so it's an uphill battle

Army @ Temple -17 CBSSN
My Dad is a West Point grad so I root for them and would love to see Army in the AAC, but they have a woeful football program. Temple managed to hold onto Rhule and returns PJ Walker so they should be pretty good this year.

OU -7 @ Houston ABC
Houston's boys are gonna be fired up and take an early lead, but there's a reason the elite blue bloods rarely lose. OU's backups will be almost as fast and strong as UH's starters and will wear them down over 60 minutes.

SJSU @ Tulsa -13 CBSSN
I don't know what to expect from SJSU. They're usually bad but seem to be trending up. I'll take the homer pick.

SMU @ UNT - 10
This one is even harder to pick than the Tulsa game. I guess I'll take the home team again.

Solid analysis. 04-bow

Pretty good analysis.
Tulsa gets 3-4 points for being at home. Otherwise looking at the stats the SJSU and Tulsa are pretty even. Who ever has a good night.

I think most games will be at least 2 TD difference except SMU/UNT and Houston/OU. Houston will get OU's full attention, making the upset a lot harder. Houston will have to get more than 2 turnovers in order to win.

So if we pair two elite blue bloods like say Florida State vs Oklahoma they won't tired each other but if we pair Oklahoma vs Houston Houston is now actually at a disadvantage.

Yeah, that's a good analysis alright.

Hey PirateTreasureNC, I haven't seen MagicKnightmare in awhile. It seems everyone really likes the win/lose selections he offers, but I personally like the detail you put into your pics.

What do you think about combining yours and his methods, keeping track of records for posters but allowing "confidence points" of a sort in score predictions? Confidence points could be generated and added to your "win/loss" score based on the accuracy of the prediction (1 points for a correct win / loss guess, 1-3 additional points according to the proximity of the score, 0 for incorrect win / loss). If you agree to some sort of model like this I could help you out with visibility and we could pin a standings thread on the main page.

I guess I could try to keep up with that kind of thing but you have some who go winners and some who post scores. Also, I have just enough time to link everything up and give my own predictions--and the "Reality Said" part. I'm not opposed to the idea though...or a tag team idea...

Tulane @ Wake ESPN3
MY LINE: Tulane 26-23 Tulane should beat Wake--if not, I'd feel sorry for Tulane. Wake has lost it.
REALITY SAID: Wake Forest 7-3 Really surprised at the low scoring in the game. Tulane almost got it.
0-1

UT-Martin @ UC ESPN3
MY LINE: UC 35-14Any closer and I would call shenanigans.
REALITY SAID: UC 28-7 Nice blow out.
1-1

Maine @ UConn ESPN3
MY LINE: UConn 27-10 UConn should get this easily.
REALITY SAID: UConn 24-21 UConn basically pulled this out their arse.
2-1

Friday 9/2:
Army @ Temple CBSSN
MY LINE: Temple 33 - 14 This should be a easy W.
REALITY SAID: Army 28-17 Temple was in this game till their QB tanked them with INTs resulting in Army touchdowns.
2-2

Saturday 9/3:
#3 OU @ #15 Houston ABC
MY LINE: Houston 30-28 @ Houston helps a lot. I think this will be the best game involving a AAC team in Week 1. A good showing by Houston should help themselves and the league for the rest of the season.
REALITY SAID: Houston 33-23 NICE!
3-2

Fordham @ Navy CBSSN
MY LINE: Navy 35-14 Navy would get this easily.
REALITY SAID: Navy 52-16 Nice domination.
4-2

WCU @ ECU ESPN3
MY LINE: ECU 31-20 ECU, on paper, should win big BUT, WCU is a legit FCS team and our entire staff will be coaching as a unit for the first time against an opponent trying to stop them. The closeness of the score is based on a new staff operating for the first time against a fairly decent team.
REALITY SAID: ECU 52-7 WOW. I am really surprised that we really laid it on a team in our first outing FCS or not. Next week against State will be the real show of what we are.
5-2

Towson @ USF ESPN3
MY LINE: USF 27-20 USF should win.
REALITY SAID: USF 56-20 NICE domination.
6-2

SJSU @ Tulsa CBSSN
MY LINE: Tulsa 34-30 Tulsa being at home gives them the edge in this game. I expect a high scoring affair.
REALITY SAID: Tulsa 45-10 NICE W!
7-2

SMU @ UNT
MY LINE: SMU 30-17 UNT was garbage last year, SMU should have enough in them to get this done.
REALITY SAID: 34-21 Whew....
8-2

So Car St @ UCF ESPN3
MY LINE: UCF 28 -13 Right? UCF should be able to win their first game right?
REALITY SAID: UCF 38-0 YES!
9-2

SE Missouri St @ Memphis ESPN3
MY LINE: Memphis 45-13 Memphis should destroy them.
REALITY SAID: Memphis 35-17 Almost as convincing as it should have been.
10-2

That's my story and I might stick to it...at least for week 1.

I'll take a 10-2 week any time.
