5xx miles from WVU to U of CT.

Well, we all know that most likely the core B12 teams would be flying out to either Morgantown or Hartford, then flying to the other if playing both in two-three days, anyway.

No big time program is busing its teams 8hrs between games. That's low-major stuff. Even Gonzaga has a private plane...

Mark Blaudschun is saying that UConn and Cincinnati are the top two expansion candidates right now, and his credentials surpass 99% of the other people reporting on Big 12 expansion. While Cincy etc continue to publically beat their chest, UConn is quietly maneuvering behind the scenes to get a well deserved spot. I hope it works out.

UConn / UH / Cincy / BYU sounds good to me.

Please provide a link to someone at UC pounding on their chest.

I'm just ready for this to be over one way or the other.

I can't see UT and OU going for UConn, unless they are getting a TV upgrade and they are looking for academics. Looks like UH has won out. They couldn't make the travel work. I don't fault them for that.

There is no legitimate source saying that UH has won out. Expansion discussions are far from over, and I am confident.

You fail to understand what I said. Memphis has been garbage in football throughout their history. So you beat UC 2 years in a row and own the all time ranking. What does that have to do with my question? What is this large commitment Memphis has made that UCONN has not? 4 years ago you made a commitment? WTH was it? The hiring of your coach? Give me a break. UC made the most of their time in the Big East by winning, building facilities etc. that continues today. Has Memphis done the same?

Good thing for Cincinnati that Memphis has been garbage throughout history, b/c right now, we lead you all time in football, 20-13.

Holy crap, do any Memphis fans read through the thread? It is not about that, either pay attention or don't post.

Are you this angry all the time? Or is it just something about Memphis that makes you fly off the rails?

Not angry at all, none of you followed the thread and kept offering answers to questions that were not asked.

Ok i am less confident now that BYU is in peril, they may only expand by 12 now.

Yep! That would be one humongous G5 conference. They would be splitting their $10 million CFP payout 22 ways. (Even more, if they throw in BYU and Boise to make two balanced 12 team divisions.)

Just think how much ESPN would have to pay pro rata for that bunch!

There is little doubt that this expansion will not exceed 12. There is no way that the networks are going to increase the contract by 40% to being in 4 G5 schools, and there is no way that the members are going to agree to increase the split of the existing money from 10 ways to 14.

I expect that the networks will eventually agree to increase the money for a 12 team conference but only if they decide who the new members are as they did with ACC expansion.

RE: Big 12 Contacts Connecticut to Discuss Possible Interest in Expansion
There is no way to make up the revenue for even 12 teams without a Championship game at minimum. But the contract will have to be increased else there will be a dropoff in payout per team. The championship game would have to be worth 40 million plus and that's not happening. Maybe you grab a few more TV slots with an extra game to pick from each week.

14 is just lunacy. They would need a completely new deal that would pay a little less per school over many many years. The networks would need to fork over massively to make up the current per team revenue. It would have to be a long term investment where you feel Memphis/UConn/BYU would pay big dividends down the road. Not a good bet at this moment in time with all the cord cutters and stingy networks.

Nothing to really analyze in depth to begin with. It's been the case since the Big 12 stopped at ten a few years back. You cannot increase the payout with 14 teams as there is not enough value from the new additions. Everyone knows this already so sorry for repeating. I guess UConn and Memphis fans feel like they will be national powers in the Big 12. I don't even think UConn BBall (men's) gets it done with the recruiting issues they will have there.

RE: Big 12 Contacts Connecticut to Discuss Possible Interest in Expansion
I don't know why y'all wanna group BYU with the G5 when they are clearly not a G5 program. BYU is the program available that brings instant credibility from a financial perspective and athletic standard. BYU is by far the safest and most logical pick for the Big 12. The problem is #12 because I guarantee you this is the selection none of the Big 12 presidents can all agree on.

It would not surprise me at all if the Big 12 stand pat and ESPN gives them more money for doing so. The bigger picture contrary to what many say, Fox and ESPN does not want the Big 12 to go away nor does OU and Texas want to leave. All these parties will get together and a long term deal will eventually be reached whether it is a 10, 12, or 14 team league.

UConn just brought in a top 10 class recruiting in the AAC. 4 national championships ensures the prestige of this program.

I know, it is just silly to say UCONN basketball will not stay strong.
