Nice get.

What ever happened with the 4 star you guys were in the hunt for? I know the other 5 star from Miss State went elsewhere, but never heard anything regarding the 4 star HS player.

Quote:Western Kentucky is going to be the best mid-major in the country in 2017-18.

At the very least they’re going to be close to it.

On Tuesday, the Hilltoppers landed a commitment from Buffalo transfer Lamonte Bearden, a former four-star recruit that averaged 13.7 points and 4.2 assists as a sophomore with the Bulls. It was the second straight season that he was the point guard for a team that reached the NCAA tournament out of the MAC.

RE: WKU lands Buffalo Transfer
Not to be negative about WKU, but beware of Stansbury. You'll probably be at least be top 3 in C-USA most years with him because he'll get so much talent. But when he was at MS State, his coaching and discipline were absolutely horrendous. His offense was stand around and play one on one. He hard a hard time getting players to play hard. There were always chemistry issues and off the court problems.

Again, I'm not bashing your program in any way, I hope he does great because it only helps the conference. But if in 3 years you're getting mediocre results with superior talent, I won't be surprised one bit.

And that is the big question. In p5 play it can only take you so far. Against G5 it might be enough... Who knows

That's something most knowledgeable WKU fans already know, and we have discussed them as well. Hopefully Stanz is motivated about the x's and o's. He sure is getting the jimmy's and the joe's (so far)

WKU also now adding former 4 star Syracuse commit and 70th ranked player in country 6-10 Moustapha Diagne to the fold for the 17-18 season...So keeping track now we add next season 2 former 4 stars and 1 5 star along with CUSA all performer Justin Johnson and soon to be former UT transfer Willie Carmichael...Also Stansbury is not done....Medicore days with Harper are behind us, WKU fans no longer accepting average any more....

Yeah hopefully his players don't fight each other in the stands this time around.

You better hope for that and much more....

2017-18 Western will be LOADED. Not just new faces...but with experienced players up front. 2016-17 is iffy for me at least early because it takes time to jel as a team. If this years team comes together...

I expect Western to be the best team heading into the conference tourney. And any Western fan can tell you I have more questions about Stansbury's coaching than any of you. Wasn't my choice (because of X's and O's and player trouble) but he's knocking it out of the park recruiting...

if those players signs and shows up. I still have doubts about a couple

That's what I'm saying. He's great at the recruiting part. But when it comes to actually keeping that talent on campus and coaching ? He hasn't been very good at that part during his career. And it's hard for me to imagine him getting much better at this stage of his life. But like I said, as long as he keeps most of these kids around, he can just roll the ball out there and finish top 4 no doubt.

RE: WKU lands Buffalo Transfer
Wow just with talent alone we should be really good next year. Right now our starting lineup is
1- buffalo transfer (former 4 star avg 14/6 on team to make the tourney)
2- not sure
3- guessing Justin Johnson or willie Carmichael (ut transfer will move to this)
4- 4 star 6'10" sophomore or one of the guys above
5- 5 star 7' top 10 player in nation.

Holy crap. Crazy times ahead. Stanz doesn't even need to coach just keep the heads on straight!

Funny how we don't see any national media on this Eagle 9 opinion.Nothing but praise and amazement from national writers.SEVERAL national writers.

At WKU the administration will not tolerate a revolving door of players OR a long string of one and out in the NCAA tournament.Basketball oversight here is at a peak.

Young guy, right?

Took Clem Haskins 2.5 years with just as much talent ...a top 20, 2 top 50 and a few top 100 players to turn them into winners. The reason? Both, coach and players were green.

I would take the following that played on the '85-86 team and with a good coach beat this group (who I think has the talent to make a deep run in the ncaa) of Toppers off the floor.

Kannard Johnson (top 20 HS AA) Tellis Frank (#14 pick in the NBA), Clarence Martian, Steve Miller top 50, Fred Tisdale top 100 (maybe right out of it) Bryan Asbury, Bert Mcneal (Minn poy...top 10 to 15 scorer for Western all time) James Mcnary ..headcase but when he wanted to be one of the best PG's to play at Western, Kurk Lee, top 50 player and I'm leaving someone off that I can't think of right now. But key player

I honestly don't mean any disrespect to the players we have or players that committed or signed

Coaching is a very important part...should have had two F4 runs with the above talent. Clem was still learning and Murray Arnold refused to play the 3 point game that just came. That group of Toppers were the best from 1-12 since our F4 . Hopefully that changes but coaching will play a huge part if it does.

Yes for tourney success coaching matters (coach K compared to coach cal) I'm talking about just regular season play. And a little bit of difference in brand new Clem and stans

I feel Western is laying the foundation to return to to the top 75 RPI type of program CUSA needs to start getting multiple bids. I hope UAB, UTEP, Charlotte, USM, ODU, etc are able to do the same. We need to put last season's under performance in the rear view. There is no reason it can't happen considering most schools in this league take BB seriously.

Being run out of a school (and let's be honest, that's what happened at M. St.) can be humbling. He's had time to sit back, watch and learn, and hopefully get better. His recruiting hasn't slipped. We will see about the rest. I can tell you 1 thing. BG is excited.

This.

See: Memphis with Pastner. Loads of talent, mediocre results.
